Technological advances over the past 10 years have caused some significant changes to the design of the built environment. These developments, and others like them, promise to change more than just how we design; they will very likely change what we design as well. The authors will present the connection between these developments in a way that projects, realistically, how technology will affect, and are employed by, the design professions in the next five to ten years. Further, the authors will address the promises and pitfalls of embracing virtual environments as the domain of environmental design.

The article reports on the start of the construction for the University of Georgia Special Collections Library in Athens in January 2010. It will reportedly house the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library on Georgia history and culture, the Walter J. Brown Media Archive and Peabody Awards Collection, which has more than 100,000 audio and video recordings and the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies. The original facility in 1904 reportedly epitomized early 20th century neoclassical architecture which is marked by symmetrical paired brick pilasters across the facade and evenly-spaced, paneled and stained columns in the interior. A new building was reportedly built up and 1,830 square feet of space was added. Though a well-known decorative painter and muralist in the early 20th century, the artist Robert “Bob the Sheriff” Chanler was an incredible personality and creative genius who has been largely forgotten overtime. His work is representative of artistic innovation and experimentation that characterized the early 20th century , presenting a unique quality that can only be called ‘Chanleresque.’ This thesis intends to situate Chanler's interior decoration of the Whitney Studio within the body of Chanler’s work in decorative interiors, screens and murals, to analyze the materials and structural system that compose the ceiling and present a proposal for the original …

Local governments are beginning to require new, privately constructed and funded buildings to be “green” buildings. Instead of creating their own, locally-derived definitions of green buildings, many municipalities are adopting an existing private standard created by members of the building industry: LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). This Article explains and assesses the privately promulgated LEED standards. It argues that the translation of LEED standards, which were intended to be voluntary, into law raises several theoretical and practical problems. Trinity Episcopal Cathedral has over forty large stained glass windows that range in age from the 15 to the 20th Century. The medieval windows were produced in England and Germany, while the more contemporary windows were produced by such prominent studios as those directed by Willet, Connick, Tiffany, Heaton, Young, and Burnham. The more contemporary windows are of considerable artistic and historical interest, but there is very little information available about them.
