Plan Dimensions Of The Flow Confinited By Cross Dams, On Rivers With Non-Symmetric Flooring, M.R. Bakiev, U.A. Kahhorov, A.А. Jakhonov

Irrigation and Melioration

Improving methods and technologies for calculating and designing floodplain transverse dams, taking into account the interaction of floodplain and riverbed flows to protect the banks from erosion and regulate riverbeds is one of the most important tasks. At the same time, the priority remains the transverse blind dams made of local soil with the attachment of their head. Their construction on rivers with two-sided asymmetric floodplains has its own characteristics, which consist in the need to take into account the morphology, the different roughness of the floodplain and the channel, the interaction of floodplain and channel flows, the asymmetry of …

Results Of Software Modeling Flow Section Of Vane Pumps, О.Я. Гловацкий, R.R. Ergashev, A.A. Abdullaev, J.I. Rashidov

Irrigation and Melioration

The article presents an analysis of data on the flow movement in a centrifugal pump, the results of which are aimed at improving the pump design in the direction of ensuring the flow of the flow without resistance to achieve energy savings in water transmission. To reduce slip on the pumps and to reduce the resistance to current flowing inside the pump to achieve energy savings, working impeller and spiral chamber shape are designed to be constructively correct. Data from pumping stations show that the performance of pumping equipment reduces water consumption by 10-12%, pressure by 18-20% and service life …

Apiculture Adaptations In A Shifting World: The Beekeeper’S Experience Across The Globe, Katherine Lloyd 2021 SIT Graduate Institute/SIT Study Abroad

Apiculture Adaptations In A Shifting World: The Beekeeper’S Experience Across The Globe, Katherine Lloyd

Capstone Collection

Existing research suggests that changes in climate, such as rainfall and temperature shifts, will threaten bees’ main food sources and cause detrimental impacts on apiculture globally. Despite this, to the best of the author’s knowledge, there is little available by way of research relating to how beekeepers themselves experience these increased pressures to their practices. This research project investigated the experiences of beekeepers in the United States, Malawi, and Cameroon. Surveys of US beekeepers, and interviews with Malawian and Cameroonian beekeepers were coded for emergent themes and surveys were analyzed via descriptive statistics. Major differences in challenges reported by beekeepers …

To Know The Land With Hands And Minds: Negotiating Agricultural Knowledge In Late-Nineteenth-Century New England And Westphalia, Justus Hillebrand

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Ever since the eighteenth century, experts have tried to tell farmers how to farm. The agricultural enlightenment in Europe marked the beginning of a long arc of new experts aiming to change agricultural knowledge and practice. This dissertation analyzes the pivotal period in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century in Germany and the United States when scientists, improvers, and market agents began to develop comprehensive ways to communicate agricultural innovation to farmers. In a functional approach to analyzing the negotiation of agricultural knowledge through its communication in things, words, and practices, this dissertation argues that the process of change …

Veganic Agriculture In The United States: Opportunities For Research, Outreach, And Education, Alisha Utter, Mona Seymour 2021 University of Vermont

Veganic Agriculture In The United States: Opportunities For Research, Outreach, And Education, Alisha Utter, Mona Seymour

The Journal of Extension

A growing number of farmers are excluding animal inputs from crop production, an approach commonly referred to as veganic or stockfree organic agriculture. This research-based article discusses the soil health and fertility strategies reported by a sample of U.S. veganic farmers. These approaches may be relevant beyond the veganic community to farmers seeking innovative methods for produce safety and nutrient cycling. Agricultural outreach professionals (AOPs), including Extension personnel, play a critical role in supporting veganic practices by serving as cross-pollinators between farmers and research institutions. Thus, the article endeavors to expand AOP familiarity with veganic practices and benefits.
