Results show that Geometridae is represented with a total of 115 species belonging to 67 genus of 5 subfamilies as follows : Archiearinae; 1 genus and 1 species, Geometrinae; 4 genus and 4 species, Scopulinae; 7 genus and 41 species, Larentiinae; 22 genus and 31 species, Ennominae; 33 genus and 38 species. On the one hand, of these, 49 species are new records for Turkish Thrace, on the other, within these species, 17 are new records for …

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In this study, five specimens of Mustela nivalis collected from five localities in Turkey were examined based on karyological, morphological, bacular and some ecological aspects. The karyotype of M. nivalis has 2n=42, NFa=72 and FN=76. The baculum seems to be similar to that of specimens of M. nivalis dinniki from Erivan (Armenia).

A Study On Vormela Peregusna Guldenstaedt, 1770 (Mammalia: Carnivora) In Turkey, Şaki̇r Özkurt, Mustafa Sözen, Nuri̇ Yi̇ği̇t, Ercüment Çolak

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Karyological and morphological characteristics of a female Vormela peregusna captured from Gönen (Balıkesir) were examined. The diploid number of chromosomes (2n) 38, fundamental number (FN) 72, and the number of autosomal arms (NFa) 68. The X chromosome is medium-sized submetacentric. The morphological and karyological evaluations showed that Turkish peregusna is similar to Vormela peregusna syriacus from Syria.

Taxsonomical States Of Lacerta Viridis (Lacertidae) Populations From Turkey, İ. Ethem Çevi̇k, Yusuf Kumlutaş

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In this research, , A total of 64 MM and 37 VV adult specimens from Turkish Thrace and 158 MM and 188 VV adult specimens from Anatolia were investigated comparatively as two separate populations groups to determine the subspecific status of the species in Turkey. No significant differences are discernible between the two population groups from the viewpoints of pholidosis, morphometrical measurements and rations and pattern and coloration characteıistics. So the Turkish L. viridis populations belong to a single subspecies L. v. meridionalis.

Using the information about their ecological features, morphological comporision of same aged rodent samples from islands with the Thrace and Northwest Anatolia was carried out.As a result of the comparision,it was found that Sciurus of Imbros, Apodemus and Spalax samples of Tenedos showed similarity to the samples from Northwest Anatolia, whereas Apodemus …

This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of liver fluke infections in cattle and sheep in Trakya (The European Part of Turkey). For this purpose the slaughterhouses of different localities (Tekirdağ, Hadimköy, Lüleburgaz, Çorlu, Kırklareli and Keşan) were visited between 03.03.1997 and 22.10.1997, and a total of 476 sheep and 415 cattle livers were examined. The prevalence rates of fasciolosis hepatica and dicrocoeliosis dendriticum were 3.99% and 23.55% in sheep, and 0.48% and 2.65% in cattle respectively. No changes in livers, which led to the partial or total condemnation, were observed.

Soil samples were taken monthly from Bozkır, Ilgın, Karabağ, Karapınar and Yarma between September 1993 and September 1995. They were extracted with a modified Berlese-Tullgreen apparatus. The oribatid mites collected from the soil samples were preserved in glycerol until examination. Specimens were cleared in lactic acid before microscopic observation. Approximately 70,000 oribatid mite specimens were studied and found to consist of 56 species belonging to 34 genera and 22 families. Of these …

Live weights of Bronze turkeys reared in intensive and semi-intensive conditions (male+female) were found as; 4273.8±95.5 g and 4185.0±107 g at the end of 16. weeks, respectively. Difference between the mean weights was not significant (P>0.05). Turkeys reared on floor were consumed more feed than the other group. Cumulative feed consumptions of turkeys reared in intensive and semi-intensive conditions were determined as 13562.0±50.0 g and 12415.0±100.0 g at the end of 16. weeks, respectively. Difference between these values …

Turkish Journal of Zoology

In this study, seventeen specimens of Meriones tristrami from Kilis were compared with the specimens of Meriones tristrami bodenheimeri along with topotypes of Meriones tristrami lycaon close to those from Kilis. It was determined that the specimens from Kilis were distinguishable from M.t. lycaon by characters such as dorsal coloration, Tx100 / HB (ratio of tail length to head and body), zygomatic breadth, occipitonasal length, basal length, diastema length, occipital width, weight, baculum shape and fundamental number of chromosomes. Thus, the specimens of M. tristrami from Kilis were determined to be a new subspecies, Meriones tristrami kilisensis subps. n.

Artificial Insemination Of Turkeys, H. L. Wiegers Aug 1955

Artificial Insemination Of Turkeys, H. L. Wiegers

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

Artificial insemination should be used for turkeys when results from natural matings are unsatisfactory. There is no hard and fast fertility rule to follow and each breeder will have his own basis of appraisal for the different varieties of turkeys. But one can say that when fertility drops below 65 per cent it is time to take action.

Turkey Production, F. E. Mussehl Jul 1926

Turkey Production, F. E. Mussehl

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

Whatever problems turkey production presents, lack of demand for roast turkey is not at this time one of them. Turkeys rate so high in popular esteem that very rarely indeed do prices fall below that of dressed chickens and usually the best grades are 12 to 15 cents per pound higher during the holiday season. The world of commerce has become quite complex but the consuming public still has one clear way of speaking to producers. In the language of the dollar we are apparently being asked to raise more turkeys.
