Investments In Energy Technological Change Under Uncertainty, Ekundayo Shittu Feb 2009

Investments In Energy Technological Change Under Uncertainty, Ekundayo Shittu

Doctoral Dissertations 1896 - February 2014

This dissertation addresses the crucial problem of how environmental policy uncertainty influences investments in energy technological change. The rising level of carbon emissions due to increasing global energy consumption calls for policy shift. In order to stem the negative consequences on the climate, policymakers are concerned with carving an optimal regulation that will encourage technology investments. However, decision makers are facing uncertainties surrounding future environmental policy. The first part considers the treatment of technological change in theoretical models.

This part has two purposes: (1) to show-through illustrative examples-that technological change can lead to quite different, and surprising, impacts on the …

Development Of A Decision Tool For Green Energy Investment In The Pioneer Valley, Benjamin R. Ewing Jan 2009

Development Of A Decision Tool For Green Energy Investment In The Pioneer Valley, Benjamin R. Ewing

Masters Theses 1911 - February 2014

We present the process followed to create a decision-aid tool for use in renewable energy and energy efficiency investment decisions. Our tool is targeted at home and small business owners in the Pioneer Valley. We begin with the development of two prototype tools. The first was created for the Hitchcock Center for the Environment, and is an Excel-based tool that allows users to select various combinations of technologies and instantly see the financial, environmental, and educational impacts of their choice. The second examines only two technologies, solar photovoltaics and combined heat and power, and uses a cost minimization approach. These …

Uncertainty Analysis In Mcp-Based Wind Resource Assessment And Energy Production Estimation, Matthew Lackner, Anthony L. Rogers, James F. Manwell Aug 2008

Uncertainty Analysis In Mcp-Based Wind Resource Assessment And Energy Production Estimation, Matthew Lackner, Anthony L. Rogers, James F. Manwell

Matthew Lackner

This paper presents a mathematical framework to properly account for uncertainty in wind resource assessment and wind energy production estimation. A meteorological tower based wind measurement campaign is considered exclusively, in which measurecorrelate- predict is used to estimate the long-term wind resource. The evaluation of a wind resource and the subsequent estimation of the annual energy production (AEP) is a highly uncertain process. Uncertainty arises at all points in the process, from measuring the wind speed to the uncertainty in a power curve. A proper assessment of uncertainty is critical for judging the feasibility and risk of a potential wind …

Telecommunications And Its Practical Application, Athol, Massachusetts, Center For Economic Development Jan 1997

Telecommunications And Its Practical Application, Athol, Massachusetts, Center For Economic Development

Center for Economic Development Technical Reports

Rural areas have been experiencing a transition in their economic and social structure. Traditional industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, and resource extraction have been declining. The result has been a displacement of labor in rural areas and instability within rural economies. Upwards of three quarters of rural counties have experienced outmigration in the last decade. Per capita income in rural areas is only two-thirds that of their urban counterparts, and rural poverty rates exceed those in urban areas. Rural areas have traditionally considering how the quality of their education, health, and government services can be incorporated into their overall development …
