Thermodynamic Analysis Of Convective Heat Transfer In An Annular Packed Bed, Yasar Demirel, R Kahraman Dec 1999

Thermodynamic Analysis Of Convective Heat Transfer In An Annular Packed Bed, Yasar Demirel, R Kahraman

YASAR DEMIREL

A combination of the first and second law of thermodynamics has been utilized in analyzing the convective heat transfer in an annular packed bed. The bed was heated asymmetrically by constant heat fluxes. Introduction of the packing enhances wall to fluid heat transfer considerably, hence reduces the entropy generation due to heat transfer across a finite temperature difference.

Blending Of Immiscible Polymers In A Mixing Zone Of A Twin Screw Extruder- Effects Of Compatibilization, William Macknight, O. Franzheim, T. Rische, M. Stephan Dec 1999

Blending Of Immiscible Polymers In A Mixing Zone Of A Twin Screw Extruder- Effects Of Compatibilization, William Macknight, O. Franzheim, T. Rische, M. Stephan

William MacKnight

The dependence of the morphology development of physical as well as of reactive
compatibilized polypropylene/polyamide 6 (PP /PA6) blends in a mixing zone of a
co-rotating twin screw extruder on blend composition and screw rotational speed
was investigated. A special process analytical set-up based on a co-rotating twin
screw extruder was used, which allowed melt sampling from different positions
along the operating extruder in time periods less than 10 seconds. It has been
shown that the disperse particle sizes in physical blends depend crucially on the
blend composition because of the increasing influence of coalescence with an increasing
concentration of …

On The Effective Heat Transfer Parameters In A Packed Bed, Yasar Demirel, R.N. Sharma, H.H. Ali

YASAR DEMIREL

Heat transfer behavior of fluid flow through packed tube and channel has an important impact on the de- sign and operation of catalytic reactors.

Thermodynamic Analysis Of Thermomechanical Coupling Incouette Flow, Yasar Demirel Dec 1999

Thermodynamic Analysis Of Thermomechanical Coupling Incouette Flow, Yasar Demirel

YASAR DEMIREL

Couette ¯ow provides the simplest model for the analysis of heat transfer for ¯ow between parallel plates and between two coaxial cylinders. Design of such devices with the consideration of the thermo- mechanical coupling of viscous heat generation and Couette ¯ow is important since they are used in lubri- cation, polymer and food processing, and viscometry.

Imaging The Reactivity Of Electro-Oxidation Catalysts With The Scanning Electrochemical Microscope, Biren C. Shah, Andrew C. Hillier Dec 1999

Imaging The Reactivity Of Electro-Oxidation Catalysts With The Scanning Electrochemical Microscope, Biren C. Shah, Andrew C. Hillier

Andrew C. Hillier

We describe an application of the scanning electrochemical microscope that utilizes tip-sample feedback to characterize the reactivity of electro-oxidation catalysts. The kinetics of hydrogen oxidation are probed at a platinum electrode as a function of applied potential in aqueous sulfuric acid solution. Tip-sample feedback generates a tip response that reflects the rate of hydrogen oxidation at the substrate. The ability to directly measure the rate constant for hydrogen oxidation is, subsequently, used to perform reactivity mapping of heterogeneous electrodes consisting of catalytic and noncatalytic domains. Differences in reaction kinetics clearly distinguish surface composition variations based upon their reactivity toward hydrogen …
