It is the purpose of this thesis to show the need for correlation of these subjects because they are so closely related. It may also bring about an awakening of commercial educators to the many things a typewriting teacher must teach and that other subjects are repetitions to a large degree of what the student has already been taught in typewriting.

Opinion seems to be well divided as to the shortcomings of World History. Some believe that it is a mistake to attempt to cover so much history in the time allotted. Others contend that poor teaching is the greatest obstacle. Obviously, both views have some merit. However, there is another reason that is not generally given that may come nearer reaching the source of the trouble. It may be that the starting point in World History is too far removed from the student's interest.

The aim of the investigation was to obtain some indication of the average length of service of teachers employed by the State Education Departments. It seems that Australia can claim to be the first country to have shown in a systematic way, and on a large scale, that it is possible to provide by correspondence a complete elementary education for children who have never been to school. Cunningham reviews the conditions giving rise to correspondence instruction, the growth and scope of the Correspondence Schools, curricula and methods, attainments and progress of pupils.
