Modeling Of Quad-Station Module Cluster Tools Using Petri Nets, Aung Nay
Modeling Of Quad-Station Module Cluster Tools Using Petri Nets, Aung Nay
Theses
The semiconductor industry is highly competitive, and with the recent chip shortage, the throughput of wafers has become more important than ever. One of the tools that the industry has deployed is to use of quad-station modules instead of the traditional single-station modules that allow for higher throughput and better wafer consistency by processing multiple wafers at the same time and distributing work. The industry trend is to use multiple transfer chamber robots to stack the quad-station modules in a series, particularly for etch products. In this work, the quad-station cluster tool wafer movement is modeled by using Petri net …
A Neural Analysis-Synthesis Approach To Learning Procedural Audio Models, Danzel Serrano
A Neural Analysis-Synthesis Approach To Learning Procedural Audio Models, Danzel Serrano
Theses
The effective sound design of environmental sounds is crucial to demonstrating an immersive experience. Classical Procedural Audio (PA) models have been developed to give the sound designer a fast way to synthesize a specific class of environmental sounds in a physically accurate and computationally efficient manner. These models are controllable due to the choice of parameters from analyzing a class of sound. However, the resulting synthesis lacks the fidelity for the preferred immersive experience; thus, the sound designer would rather search through an extensive database for real recordings of a target sound class. This thesis proposes the Procedural audio Variational …
Opening The Halls Of Power: Implementing A Community Organizing Approach To Parent Engagement In New York City’S Community Schools, Andrew R. King
Opening The Halls Of Power: Implementing A Community Organizing Approach To Parent Engagement In New York City’S Community Schools, Andrew R. King
Graduate Doctoral Dissertations
Under former Mayor Bill de Blasio, New York City launched a Community Schools Initiative (NYC-CS) in 2014 that now includes more than 300 schools, making it the largest school improvement plan of its kind in the country. Bloomberg, the previous mayor, had championed market-based reform strategies by closing struggling public schools and replacing them with privately run charter schools. In contrast, the community schools model supports struggling schools by providing them with wraparound services to address not only the academic—but also the health, social, and emotional—needs of the “whole child.” Research has shown the NYC initiative has had positive impacts …
The Bavarian Birthright: Dynasticism, Faith, And The Creation Of The Bavarian State In A Federated Empire, Nathan Ray Mauslein
The Bavarian Birthright: Dynasticism, Faith, And The Creation Of The Bavarian State In A Federated Empire, Nathan Ray Mauslein
History Theses, Dissertations, and Student Creative Activity
Over the course of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries the Bavarian Wittelsbachs waged a war against their own estates, the encroachment of Protestantism, and checks on their own ducal and electoral power, at both the imperial and territorial levels. Through dynastic maneuvering the Wittelsbachs unified the whole of Bavaria under their banner and created an early modern bureaucratic state in order to aid in their rule. The creation of this system involved the creation of their own Counter Reformation system, state institutions, and an early modern bureaucracy to submit the territory to their will. The story of Bavaria’s state development …

Effects Of Riverine Barriers On Avian Evolution In The Amazon Basin, Andre Eugene Moncrieff
Effects Of Riverine Barriers On Avian Evolution In The Amazon Basin, Andre Eugene Moncrieff
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The high biodiversity found in the Amazon Basin has long captivated the attention of naturalists and evolutionary biologists seeking to explain its origins. Early observations by Alfred Wallace highlighted the role of rivers in delimiting the geographic ranges of many species; furthermore, where rivers narrow towards their headwaters, he noted that some species cross rivers freely. A major goal of this dissertation is to investigate how these and other observations about riverine barriers might inform our understanding of how speciation unfolds in Amazonia. My approach involved generating genomic data with dense geographic sampling for manakins in the genus Lepidothrix, …
Autonomous Decision-Making In Interdependent Computing Systems Based On Artificial Intelligence, Georgios Fragkos
Autonomous Decision-Making In Interdependent Computing Systems Based On Artificial Intelligence, Georgios Fragkos
Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs
With the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the notion of autonomy, in terms of acting and thinking based on personal experience and judgment, has paved the way towards an autonomous decision-making future. This future can address the complex domain of the interdependent computing systems, whose main challenge is that they interact with each other with unpredictable and often unstable outcomes. It is crucial to envision and design this AI-driven autonomy for the reciprocal computing systems which cover a variety of use-cases ranging from the Internet of Things (IoT) to cybersecurity. This can be achieved by cloning the human decision-making process, …

Randomized Algorithms For Resource Allocation In Device To Device Communication., Subhankar Ghosal Dr.
Doctoral Theses
In device to device (D2D) communication, two users residing in close proximity can directly communicate between them, through a common channel, without the need of a base station. A pair of D2D users forms a link and a channel needs to be allocated to it. The interference relationship among the active links at time t is modelled as an interference graph g(t). To establish interference-free communication, we have to assign a channel vector C(t) and a power vector corresponding to the active links such that the required signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) is satisfied for each link. Since …

Never Silent: Development Of Gay Activism In The Cold War Midwest, Braydon Conell
History Theses, Dissertations, and Student Creative Activity
Though not typically seen as a burgeoning environment for gay life, the Midwest nevertheless has a rich history of queer culture. Focusing on gay activism during the Cold War era, this thesis discusses the rise and influence of homophile organizations in the Midwest. Homophile organizations and the movement's ideals of accommodation and integration played an integral role in the activism coming out of World War II. The homophile movement, though, did not wane with the development of the more radical gay liberation movement. Instead, the homophile movement in the Midwest evolved and played its own part alongside radical activists. Historically, …

While the role of autoimmune T cells has been extensively studied in anti-myelin
autoimmunity, little is known about the function of B cells in multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS). B cells form clusters with T cells in the meninges directly adjacent to demyelinating lesions. Previous studies have shown that disease progression is dependent on the depletion of specific populations of B cells, but it is not clear which contributes to pathology or how. The purpose of this thesis is to characterize the population of meningeal B cells to determine how they differ …

Niche Modeling Of Eight Crayfish Species In Texas, Nathan Schubert
Niche Modeling Of Eight Crayfish Species In Texas, Nathan Schubert
Biology Theses
Freshwater species make up ~10% of all known species and occupy less than one percent of earth’s habitat, which is being degraded by human usage. Crayfish have a large impact on their aquatic or terrestrial environment and can serve as a health indicator of aquatic environments, as they generally require undegraded environments. In many habitats, crayfish make up more than half of the macroinvertebrate biomass, and play important ecological roles, as a food resource for both aquatic and terrestrial species, as predators of fish and invertebrates, and as bioprocessors of vegetation and detritus. The objective of this project was to …

Heat Stressed Exercise Elicits Shifts In Cooling Strategies Across Body Mass In Tropical Songbirds, Kristen Dee Oliver
Heat Stressed Exercise Elicits Shifts In Cooling Strategies Across Body Mass In Tropical Songbirds, Kristen Dee Oliver
Biology ETDs
In resting animals, water use positively correlates with metabolic rate, for example smaller animals using proportionally more water per gram of body mass. However, animals also must endure heat and exertion, and evaporative cooling requires additional water use that may not scale similarly with body size. How evaporative water loss allometrically scales with body mass during heat-stressed exercise is poorly resolved, particularly for birds, yet is critically important for understanding the consequences of climate warming on the fitness of bird populations. Here, we evaluated how air temperature (Ta) influenced evaporative water loss during exercise (EWLexercise) across …
