Gender, Jobs And Labor: Understanding The Gendered Division Of Household Labor In Dual Earner, Middle Class Families Based On Job Dynamics, Jessica Carlisle

Sociology ETDs

Despite the fact that women have made large strides in education and the workforce, they still do a significant amount of the traditional household labor. Past research shows that economic variables such as education, income, and available time as well as beliefs regarding gender norms and values can affect the variation of time spent in domestic labor for both men and women. However, inconsistencies in past research warrant the use of other models or theories to better understand this division. This study aims to understand this division through the use of the job dynamics' theory. This theory consists of scores …

"True Patriots For The Salvation Of The Fatherland": Sinarquistas And The Struggle For Post-Revolutionary Mexico, John Smith

History ETDs

The efforts of Mexico's revolutionary leaders to rein in clerical power produced many violent confrontations between secular liberals and partisans for the Roman Catholic Church. Formed in 1937, the Unión Nacional Sinarquista built up a following of conservative Catholics in part by means of a mass culture produced by the movement's elites, such as elaborately staged rituals, canons of national heroes and martyrs, interpretations of national history, and songs. With this propaganda, the Sinarquistas sought to generate popular support for the movement leadership's right-wing political agenda. This thesis explores the mass culture of the Sinarquista movement, as well as that …

On Roots Of The Macdonald Function, Kaylee Tejeda

Mathematics & Statistics ETDs

An overview is given for the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for outgoing solutions to the radial wave equation' in the context of nonreflecting radiation boundary conditions on a spherical domain. We then consider the Macdonald function K_l+1/2 (z) for l \u2208 Z \u22650 , a solution to the half-integer order modified Bessel equation. This function can be expressed as K_l+1/2 (z) = sqrt(\u03c0/2z)e^−z z^−l p_l (z), where p_l (z) is a degree-l monic polynomial with simple roots in the left-half plane. By exploiting radiation boundary conditions for the 'radial wave equation', we show that the root set of p_l (z) also obeys …
