Through end-user design based research methodology, we developed an interactive online social network that specifically communicates informative and harm reduction strategies for alcohol and illicit drug use to University students. Twenty-four demographically representative University undergraduates were recruited to participate in a two part quantitative/qualitative pilot study intended to assess usability of the website and explore necessary components to optimize website design and interactive experience for its target population. Website usability was assessed by participant completion of the modified Standard Usability Scale. Website design optimization was explored through focus group sessions. Fantasy-Theme Analysis Of Food Documentaries: Contention, Collaboration, And Consultation As Health Promotion Approaches, Vanessa Brandon

In this study, the medium of documentary film is explored as a potential health-promotion tool. Food documentaries have become more popular recently, and the public's awareness of food-related health issues is growing. By analyzing different approaches to documentary films about food, I unpack the many functions and social perceptions of food with regard to health. Using fantasy-theme analysis, I explore the visions of the filmmakers of three food documentaries and the health-promotion strategies employed within them. Three different approaches to motivating health-behavior change emerged from the documentaries--contention, collaboration, and consultation. Tobacco poses one of the most dire public health threats globally. Whereas tobacco control policies and public education in developed countries reduced tobacco consumption in the West, China, as other developing countries, is targeted by the tobacco companies marketing efforts and is facing increasing rates of tobacco consumption. Previous studies in the western countries pointed at the importance of news coverage of tobacco-related issues on public opinion and agenda setting, but the role of government-controlled newspapers in China was not previously examined.
