The study of the dentition is a common manner for age determination. In this article, we will discuss the pertinent methods to estimate the dental age of unknown dead or young alive people. In children, histological techniques as well as tooth eruption or calcification are appropriate to assess dental age in postmortem. After 15 years, it becomes difficult to estimate the age, since the phenomena related to the tooth eruption or calcification is completed. Therefore, the rate of racemization and Lamendin method are pertinent to determine the age adults in postmortem. Finally, in young alive people where age determination has …

Étude De L'Effet De La Convergence Des Parois Axiales Sur La Rétention Des Couronnes Scellées, Pamela Bejjany, Nouhad Rizk

International Arab Journal of Dentistry

The aim of this in vitro study is to investigate the variation in the retention of ceramo-metallic crowns on identical dental preparations, differing only by the convergence of their axial walls. Materials and methods: Sixty molars were prepared; the convergence of the axial walls was of 20 degrees (maximum convergence), 30 degrees (acceptable convergence) or 60 degrees (critical convergence putting at risk the durability of treatment). Infrastructures were sealed using two types of ciment- a resin and a glass ionomer ciments- for the same axial convergence. Results: for small angulations (<30 degrees), the use of glass ionomer ciment provided a higher retention than that provided by the resin ciment. For conical dental preparations (≥30 degrees), bonding with resin ciment offered a better retention and a greater resistance to displacement forces.

Periodontitis As A Risk Factor For Preterm Low-Birth Weight Babies: A Litterature Review, Shaju Jacob

International Arab Journal of Dentistry

Periodontitis is reported to be associated with preterm low-birth weight (PLBW) and is claimed to be one of its risk factors. This literature review examines evidence supporting the role of periodontitis in the occurrence of PLBW. PubMed, medIND and WHO indices were searched for published studies, (cross-sectional, case-control, longitudinal, experimental) using the key words: pregnancy, periodontitis. There is enough evidence to implicate periodontitis as a risk factor for preterm low-birth weight even though recent studies haven’t shown a significant relation. New researches with population-specific definitions of PLBW and periodontal diseases must be done for a better assessment of the relation …

Field Cancerization Of Oral Cavity: A Case Report And Its Clinical Implications, Raghavandra Kini, Vathsala Naik, Smit Singla

International Arab Journal of Dentistry
