System And Method Of Variable Filter Length Local Tomography, Alexander Katsevich, Michael Frenkel
System And Method Of Variable Filter Length Local Tomography, Alexander Katsevich, Michael Frenkel
UCF Patents
In Computed Tomography (CT) the goal is to reconstruct the distribution µ of the x-ray attenuation coefficient inside the object being scanned. Local Tomography (LT) computes not µ, but Bµ, where B is some operator that enhances singularities. Suppose one is interested in reconstructing a region of interest (ROI) inside a patient. For example, the ROI could be the cardiac region. Conventional (also known as global) reconstruction requires that the entire cross-section of the patient be irradiated. This means that during the scan one has to transmit x-rays through parts of the patient located far from the ROI. The main …

Binary Probe System For Sensitive Detection Of Target Analytes, Dmitry Kolpashchikov, Yulia Gerasimova
UCF Patents
We suggest a novel PCR-free assay that allows fluorescent detection of specific nucleic acid sequences with high selectivity and sensitivity. The assay can discriminate signal nucleotide substitution in an analyzed nucleic acid with high accuracy even at ambient temperatures. The high sensitivity of the assay is predetermined by the possibility of fluorescent signal amplification due to the catalytic action of an enzyme, which recognizes only the complex of the probe with the analyte and not the probe itself. The assay is cost-efficient, which is especially beneficial for the analysis of multiple nucleic acid analytes: two short unmodified oligonucleotides need to …

Methods For Electronic Directionality Of Deep-Brain Stimulation, Richard Gilson, Nizam Razack, Gregory Welch
Methods For Electronic Directionality Of Deep-Brain Stimulation, Richard Gilson, Nizam Razack, Gregory Welch
UCF Patents
Deep Brain Simulation (DBS) is a well-accepted technique for ameolerating symptoms for a range of neurological diseases and disorders. Today's circular electrode contacts on the implanted leads creates an electronic current flow outwards in a circular from the cathode "ring" to an adjacent anode "ring" on the same lead. If the lead is misplaced outside the target site then stimulation is highly inefficient and potentially fraught with side effects because only part of the current flow hits the target and most of the flow goes elsewhere in the brain. A novel approach disclosed herein is to electronically draw current flow …
