Characterization Of Polymorphic And Blended Drugs By Physical-Analytical Properties, Rajgopal Munigeti Jan 2007

Characterization Of Polymorphic And Blended Drugs By Physical-Analytical Properties, Rajgopal Munigeti

ETD Archive

The polymorphs of Tolbutamide and Nifedipine were differentiated by measuring their unique physical properties. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Dielectric Analysis (DEA) verified the variations in these compounds with different crystal structures but the same chemical constituents. The crystalline-amorphous content of the polymorphs were determined based on a new DEA protocol. Solubility (w/w ) and spectroscopic methods clearly distinguished these drugs and compared favorably with the photomicrography of the polymorphs. Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD) analysis succintly showed differences in the various types of polymorphs. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) supported the structural distinction and solubility. The FTIR spectra of all the …

Analysis And Implementation Of A Synchronous Buck Converter Used As An Intermediate Stage Of An Hid Ballast, Sergey V. Vernyuk Jan 2004

Analysis And Implementation Of A Synchronous Buck Converter Used As An Intermediate Stage Of An Hid Ballast, Sergey V. Vernyuk

ETD Archive

The contribution of this thesis is the analysis of a Synchronous Buck converter, used as the second stage (which controls the current through the lamp, and consequently, the lamp power) in a 3-stage High-Intensity Discharge (HID) ballast. Where previously standard Buck converters were used, this new application of the Synchronous Buck converter to a medium-power lighting ballast improves efficiency by operating the converter in a new, modified critical-conduction mode to achieve soft-switching and improve efficiency significantly. The converter and 2-loop controller will be analyzed in the three HID lamp modes of operation: open circuit, short circuit, and power control mode. …

Violence And Vigilantism In Modern Irish Literature, Janet Carmichael Jan 2003

Violence And Vigilantism In Modern Irish Literature, Janet Carmichael

ETD Archive

Many authors of modern Irish literary works challenge the rhetoric used to justify the continuation of conflict in Northern Ireland. One effective method used to accomplish this challenge is the dramatic depiction of violence. The depictions are notable in that they are designed to fall outside of, run counter to, or exceed the normative frameworks perpetuated by the dominant ideologies. They are formulated to promote social change by attacking the foundational fallacies used to validate the structural hegemony. Eoin McNamee and Kate O'Riordan use graphic depictions of violence and human destruction in their novels to expose some of the fallacies …

The Euclid Heights Allotment: A Palimpsest Of The Nineteenth Century Search For Real Estate Value In Cleveland's East End, William C. Barrow

ETD Archive

The Euclid Heights Allotment was a late nineteenth century predecessor to the Van Sweringen brothers' Shaker Heights development, anticipating many of the themes of its more famous successor. Located on the heights overlooking Case Western Reserve University, Euclid Heights was the first elite subdivision to marry new electric streetcar technology with the romantic appeal of Cleveland's heights and provide a sheltered, restricted residential community for the wealthy citizens gradually moving out Euclid Avenue to the University Circle area.

This allotment, in its various phases, was not the first use of the site, either for land speculation or allotments. Borrowing the …
