Image Sharpening Method Of Automatic Loading And Unloading Drill Pipe Target In Underground Coal Mine, Yao Ningping, Liang Chunmiao, Yao Yafeng, Song Haitao

Coal Geology & Exploration

Due to the space limitation of underground roadway in coal mine, the drilling robot is designed with two independent systems, i.e., the drilling system and the drilling pipe loading and unloading system, which are in flexible layout. Using the monocular visual identification based on cooperative target, the drilling system is associated with the drilling pipe loading and unloading system for the cooperative operation of the two systems to deliver the drill pipe. However, there are problems such as borehole cinder, cooperative target polluted by sewage, high dust concentration, low visibility, low luminance of artificial light source, uneven illumination resulting in …

Coal Geology & Exploration

To explore the influence of reverse fault activation on the stability of the application of the pillar-free self-formed roadway technology, this study systematically investigated the influencing scope and mechanisms of the reverse fault activation through theoretical analysis, numerical simulations, engineering practice, and field monitoring. The results show that, under the combined action of horizontal tectonic stress and dead weight stress, reverse faults have a significant influence on both the advanced abutment pressure of working faces and the pressure on the roadway roof after coal mining. The reverse fault was locally activated when the working face was close to the reverse …

Reliability Analysis And Compressibility Correction Of Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry Experiments For Low-Medium-Rank Coals, Song Dangyu, Zhao Yuwei, Li Yunbo, Yu Zhen

Coal Geology & Exploration

Low-medium-rank coals are soft and exhibit significant compressibility under high pressure. Therefore, it is debatable whether the pore structure of low-medium-rank coals can be reliably determined using mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) experiments. In this study, MIP experiments were conducted on four samples of low-medium-rank coals. By comparing the mercury injection curves of samples with different particle sizes, as well as the macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of the samples before and after mercury injection, this study established a correction method for the mercury injection volume at the high-pressure stage and investigated the reliability of MIP experiments in determining the pore structure …

In-Situ Stress Calculation For Coal Reservoirs Based On Log Parameters: A Case Study Of The Southern Yanchuan Block, Chang Chuang, Li Song, Tang Dazhen, Feng Peng

Coal Geology & Exploration

In-situ stress affects the permeability of coal reservoirs throughout the extraction of coalbed methane (CBM) and further influences the migration and output of CBM. To explore the effective methods for calculating the in-situ stress in coal seams, this study investigated the southern Yanchuan block at the eastern margin of the Ordos Basin. Based on the logs and well test data of the major coal seams in the study area, as well as the calculation results of parameters including the coal rock Poisson's ratio, modulus of elasticity, and reservoir pressure of coals, this study built a calculation model for the in-situ …

A Method For Identifying Karst Collapse Columns Based On An Improved Residual Network, ZHANG Tian, SUN Lianying, YANG Yan, TU Shuai, WANG Jinfeng 2023 Smart City College, Beijing Union University, Beijing 100101, China

A Method For Identifying Karst Collapse Columns Based On An Improved Residual Network, Zhang Tian, Sun Lianying, Yang Yan, Tu Shuai, Wang Jinfeng

Coal Geology & Exploration

Coal mining areas have complex geological conditions, and it is critical to predict and identify karst collapse columns in these areas efficiently and accurately. Human-computer interaction is the most frequently employed to interpret karst collapse columns in traditional methods. However, with an increase in the exploration scale and the constant accumulation of generated data, the traditional manual interpretation of karst collapse columns cannot meet the demand for actual coal mining. To improve the identification accuracy of karst collapse columns, this study proposes a Collapse Column Identification Network (CINet) model, which takes the automatic recognition of karst collapse columns as binary …

Community Microgrids As An Equitable Climate Resilience And Adaptation Strategy In California, Savanna Olivia Smith 2023 The University of San Francisco

Community Microgrids As An Equitable Climate Resilience And Adaptation Strategy In California, Savanna Olivia Smith

Master's Projects and Capstones

Climate change summons more extreme and frequent weather events that threaten communities’ access to power. Without power, businesses lose revenue, essential services are limited, people are exposed to extreme temperatures, and lives are lost. California has adopted microgrids as a solution to costly power outages, electrification needs, and renewable energy goals. This work evaluates the adoption of microgrids as an equitable climate resilience and adaptation strategy through a geospatial analysis of California’s resilience investment needs, a case study analysis of 9 existing tribal and rural microgrids, and a gap analysis of California and federal policies and incentive programs. Programs like …

Climate Change Impacts To Oil Spill Risk And Assessing California's Preparedness, Adeline L. Ford 2023 The University of San Francisco

Climate Change Impacts To Oil Spill Risk And Assessing California's Preparedness, Adeline L. Ford

Master's Projects and Capstones

This report investigates the possibility that climate change could increase the risk of oil spills in California. The primary climate change impact reviewed is the increasing severity of storms and extreme weather events. Natural disasters can be the initiating cause of technological accidents and the increasing severity or frequency of intense storms may increase the likelihood of an oil spill from refineries, extraction/drilling rigs, or oil in transport. A literature review of climate adaptation strategies and storm intensity predictions was completed to determine if severe storm events are expected to increase in intensity or frequency. A review of oil spill …

An Integrated Resource Plan For Tucson Electric Power Company, 2020-2050, Timothy Gary Sheehan Jr, Danny Alexander Zepeda 2023 University of San Francisco

An Integrated Resource Plan For Tucson Electric Power Company, 2020-2050, Timothy Gary Sheehan Jr, Danny Alexander Zepeda

Master's Projects and Capstones

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the United States electric power industry is responsible for 25% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions. As a result, many utilities face state mandates which force electric utilities to reduce their emissions by decreasing reliance on fossil fuels. An Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) is the primary method by which electric utilities plan all aspects of future electricity supply and demand, presenting how the company will deliver reliable and affordable energy while meeting statutory requirements. We propose three IRP scenarios through 2050 for Tucson Electric Power (TEP), an electric utility in southern Arizona. The first …

Desal In So. Cal - Are We There Yet?, Luke F. Swanson

Master's Projects and Capstones

Southern California has access to a finite amount of water that is vulnerable to the state’s changing climate and growing population. The increasing population’s water demands and hydrologic variability due to climate change inspire different proposals to solve these water limitations. Seawater or brackish water desalination and wastewater recycling are all water resources that have the potential to help meet the water needs of Southern California, specifically the South Coast Hydrologic Region. Every water resource requires energy to transport, treat, and distribute the water for use; in an era of climate change, when energy use contributes to greenhouse gases, utilities …

Energy And Climate Change Issues Around Csudh, Alex E. Perez, Tara B. Jones, Raju Bista, Parveen K. Chhetri

CSU Journal of Sustainability and Climate Change

Climate change is posing significant challenges to California’s energy sector. Extreme weather events (heat and cold) may pressure existing infrastructure. Many studies have indicated that extreme climate events would impact the energy system by affecting peak electricity demand. However, very few studies have been conducted to understand how disadvantaged communities (DACs) will be impacted. Because of unequal access to energy infrastructure (electricity generation and battery storage), DACs are more vulnerable to power outages due to the rising number of significant weather events caused by climate change. To address the issue of how DACs are disproportionately affected by climate change-related energy …
