Spatial Distribution Of Soil Nutrients In Reclamation Dump Sites Based On Subdivision Idw, Zhao Yanling, Zhao Bincheng, Wang Xin, Xiao Wu, Liu Huifang
Coal Geology & Exploration
Accurately grasping the spatial distribution of soil nutrients is of great significance for evaluating the soil quality of reclamation dumps and formulating corresponding reclamation measures. The general interpolation method of the complex terrain of the dump site has a poor prediction effect. The northern dump of Shengli No.1 open-pit mine in Xilinhot, Inner Mongolia was selected as an example in the paper. The soil nutrients(available nitrogen, available potassium, available phosphorus and organic matter) were spatially interpolated using the inverse distance weighting method based on terrain partitioning, and compared with the conventional inverse distance weighting method and kriging interpolation method. The …

Study On The Effect Of Dual-Freedom Coupling Between The Tilt Geophones And The Surface, Sun Chao, Sun Liang, He Dengke, Tian Siqing
Coal Geology & Exploration
In the process of coalfield seismic data acquisition, there is a situation of repeated geophone layout at the same point. The tilt angle difference of the geophones will leads the change of coupling condition between the geophone and the surface, which affects the quality of seismic data acquisition. In this paper, the tilt angle parameters of geophone were introduced into the coupling system of the geophone and the surface. From the point of view of vibration mechanics, the "vibration system with coupling of the dual degree of freedom" of tilt geophone was deduced. The influences of the tilt angle of …

Potential Energy Generation From Agricultural Residue In Indonesia, Adrian Rizqi Irhamna
International Programs
Indonesia has great potential of biomass sources from their agricultural residue, which can potentially be used for alternative energy generation. This preliminary research explores the most suitable technology for energy generation from agricultural residue and its challenge for application in Indonesia. The study showed that biomass utilization via the direct combustion process is recommended for energy generation. It is also reported that the pretreatment process of drying and washing, are required to increase the fuel quality and plant efficiency.

International Programs
In recent years, more efforts towards fighting climate change have been done. As a direct response, research and technology have offered several insights regarding the specific causes, effects, and even possible solutions for resolving this global issue. Among these solutions, renewable energies and their potential contributions as clean energy sources can be assessed as feasible options for the energy transformation through the decarbonization process of the energy industry. This poster is mainly focused on solar photovoltaic (PV) energy and its great potential as a renewable energy by making a brief assessment of some important aspects such as resource availability, its …

Variable Compact Multi-Point Upscaling Schemes For Anisotropic Diffusion Problems In Three-Dimensions, James Quinlan
Dissertations
Simulation is a useful tool to mitigate risk and uncertainty in subsurface flow models that contain geometrically complex features and in which the permeability field is highly heterogeneous. However, due to the level of detail in the underlying geocellular description, an upscaling procedure is needed to generate a coarsened model that is computationally feasible to perform simulations. These procedures require additional attention when coefficients in the system exhibit full-tensor anisotropy due to heterogeneity or not aligned with the computational grid. In this thesis, we generalize a multi-point finite volume scheme in several ways and benchmark it against the industry-standard routines. …

Feasibility Study On Concentrated Solar Power Plants In Malaysia, De Jen Choy
Student Works (2020-2029)
The rapidly growing economy and population in Southeast Asia has elevated the need for affordable, secured, sustainable and environmentally friendly energy sources. One such energy source is solar energy which is a suitable energy source for most Southeast Asian countries which are within the Sun Belt region. This study performs a performance and financial analysis on concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies, specifically the solar power tower (SPT) in the Malaysian environment through the use of simulation software. The significance of the study lies in the fact that limited research has been done on CSP technologies in Malaysia and the study …

Student Works (2020-2029)
In recent years, there has been a substantial amount of studies being conducted in mental workload and mental health but there is little research conducted in the Malaysian context especially in the oil and gas field. This gives rise to the need for researching the level of mental workload and mental health problems that will help the stakeholders to protect the wellbeing of their employees. This study aims to investigate the mental workload and level of depression, anxiety and stress scale of employees in a selected oil and gas company by using CarMen-Q and DASS-21 mental health assessment tools, finds …

Mechanics Of Canopy Turbulence, Hawwa Falih Kadum
Dissertations and Theses
Large canopies interact with the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) and alter transport of matter, energy, and momentum in accordance to their morphology. Canopy structure influence on turbulent processes can be utilized to achieve favorable interactions. Wind farm and forest canopies spatial arrangement is investigated in this work. Momentum fluxes investigated in a horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) array showed the existence of gusts of wind transported both from ABL above the canopy and the unperturbed flow below the canopy through sweep and ejection events. A new wind farm arrangement in which clusters of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) are collocated …

Coal Geology & Exploration
Coal is a climate-sensitive sediment that contains abundant paleoclimate information. In order to find out the paleoclimate information contained in the coal seam and the evolution of its controlling factors, the No.4 thick coal seam in the first member of Yan’an Formation in the south of Ordos basin was studied. Based on the intensive sampling of the thick coal seam, the information of organic macerals, major and trace elements, and stable carbon isotopes of organic matter were systematically tested. By using the macerals, characteristic elements and carbon isotopes of coal and rocks, four cycles of paleoclimate with alternation of warm-wet …

Change Law Of Adsorption/Desorption Energy Of Coal With Different Water Content Under The Action Of Far Infrared, Ma Kai, Ma Qianqian, Shi Yongtao
Coal Geology & Exploration
The essence of coal gas adsorption/desorption process is the process of interaction between gas molecules and molecules or atoms on the surface of the coal matrix, and the nature of the interaction is energy change. In order to deeply study the coalbed gas adsorption/desorption rules and energy change rules under the action of far infrared, the self-developed device was used to perform CO2 adsorption/desorption experiments on coal samples with different water contents under the action of far infrared. Then, the experimental results are calculated using the adsorption/desorption energy change model obtained from the principle of far-infrared thermal radiation, and …

Acoustic Emission Characteristics And Damage Evolution Of Coal-Rock Under Different Confining Pressures, Yu Jie, Liu Xiaohui, Hao Qijun
Coal Geology & Exploration
Using PCI-2 acoustic emission(AE) system, the AE experiments of different confining pressures (0, 8, 16, 5 MPa) were carried out in Baijiao coal mine in Furong, Sichuan Province, in order to reveal the change rule of ringing count rate, the temporal and spatial distribution of AE, b value of AE and damage characteristics of damaged coal-rock under different confining pressures, and to provide a theoretical basis for prediction of coal-rock damage. The results show that the AE phenomenon can reflect the crack propagation of coal-rock and the confining pressure can restrain the damage of coal-rock. With the increase of confining …

Model-Driven Energy Attenuation Method For Coal Seam Strong Reflection, Zhang Xianxu
Coal Geology & Exploration
The reflection of coal seam in seismic data has the characteristics of strong energy, which makes the reflection of adjacent strata often concealed by the reflection of coal seam. This makes it difficult to image the adjacent weak layer and lithological interpretation difficult. Aiming at this problem, a model-driven energy attenuation method for coal seam strong reflection was proposed. This method uses the coal thickness calculated by logging and measured by borehole in underground coal mine to construct cross plot with reflection amplitude of coal seam, and fit the relationship formula between amplitude and thickness. The digital model was constructed …
