Yearlings rotationally grazing smooth bromegrass were individually supplemented modified distillers grains plus solubles (MDGS) at .05, 0.4, 0.6, and 0.8% BW. Gain increased quadratically as MDGS level increased. Maximal ADG (2.95 lb/d) was predicted when supplementing level of 0.48% of BW. Economic analysis compared 0, 2, and 5 lb (DM) MDGS supplementation. When cattle ownership was retained through the feeding period, MDGS supplementation was profitable. Supplementation at 2 lb (DM) was more profitable than 5 lb (DM) when MDGS is above $265.63/ton (DM) or 85% the price of $7.50 /bu corn.

Nebraska Sandhills subirrigated meadow pastures were utilized to measure the effects of grazing on forage nutrient content in summer pastures. Pre-grazed pastures had greater protein and in vitro dry matter digestibility levelsand lower neutral detergent fiber levels compared with post-grazed pastures early in the grazing season. By late July, post-grazed vs. pre-grazed pastures did not differ in in vitro dry matter digestibility and neutral detergent fiber levels. Observed results indicate the greatest differences in nutrient content between post-grazed and pre-grazed pastures occur early in the grazing season.

The brain’s master circadian pacemaker resides within the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). SCN clock neurons are entrained to the day/night cycle via the retinohypothalamic tract and the SCN provides temporal information to the central nervous system and to peripheral organs that function as secondary oscillators. The SCN clock-cell network is thought to be the hypothalamic link between the retina and descending autonomic circuits to peripheral organs such as the adrenal gland, thereby entraining those organs to the day/night cycle. Cervical vertebral malformations can cause acute or progressive pain, paralysis, and potentially death. Herein we present a case report of dens agenesis; cervical vertebral malformations of C1, C2, C6, and C7; subluxation of C1 and C2 and C4 and C5; and associated degenerative myelopathy in a 5-month-old female Labrador Retriever puppy. We additionally review current knowledge regarding pathogenesis and treatment.

Previous research revealed that several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of zyxin were significantly associated with coccidiosis-resistance parameters. In this research, the Jinghai yellow chicken was chosen to detect the SNPs of zyxin gene exon 1 by PCR-SSCP and DNA sequencing techniques, and was also used to analyze the effect of zyxin SNPs on carcass traits. A single mutation was found with 3 genotypes, designated as AA, AB, and BB. The results showed that BB was significantly different from AA and AB in terms of abdominal fat weight and slaughter rate for cockerel (P < 0.05), while there was no significant difference between AA and AB (P > 0.05). A case of congenitally developed fused labia in a 13-month-old Brown-Swiss heifer, an uncommon entity, is described. On gross appearance of vulva, it was observed that there were only 2 small openings in the dorsal and ventral vulvar commissures. Ultrasonography of the genital tract revealed the presence of left and right ovaries, uterine horns, and cervix uteri. The abnormality of the vulva was surgically corrected. The heifer was synchronized and artificially inseminated postsurgically. During delivery, no complication was observed and a healthy male calf was born. Skeletal muscles (tongue, masseter, leg, intercostal, and diaphragmatic muscles) and brain samples of 100 sheep at slaughter were analysed for the presence of T. gondii tissue cysts along with serum IgG titres. Two methods of isolation by percoll gradient centrifugation and tissue microarray (TMA) technique with immunoperoxidase staining were used. Seropositivity was detected in 88% (88/100) of sheep sera analysed by indirect fluorescent antibody test. Tissue cysts were observed in 46 (52.3%, 46/88) and 15 (17%, 15/88) of the seropositive sheep with the isolation technique and TMA and immunoperoxidase staining, respectively. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of using different commercial feeds on growing performance and fatty acid profile of sea bream and sea bass aquacultured in net cages. Four different fish companies (i.e. 4 experimental groups) were given different commercial feeds (extruded fish feed) to be used regularly for 480 days. Omega-3 [eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)] values of feeds for groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 were 11.81%, 14.23%, 7.69%, and 12.01%, respectively. In the present study, an 84-bp insertion/deletion polymorphism of the sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP1) gene was investigated. The analysis included 6 Polish cattle herds consisting of beef (Limousin, Angus, Charolais), dairy (Holstein-Friesian, Jersey) and dual-purpose (Montbeliard) breeds. The polymorphism was found only in Limousin and Montbeliard animals, in which both the short (S)- and long (L)-type alleles occurred. The genotype distribution in Montbeliard cattle was as follows: 0.038, 0.406, and 0.556 for SS, LS, and LL, respectively. Fecal samples were collected before ivermectin treatment and on days 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 75 after drug administration. Blood was sampled on the same days to determine levels of total protein, \gamma-globulin, ceruloplasmin, and lysozyme activity. The aim of this study was to assess the relationships of hepatic triacylglycerol (TAG), plasma glucose, plasma cholesterol, and plasma urea nitrogen (PUN) concentrations with the morphological quality of oocytes obtained from 20 Carora breed lactating cows at days 20 and 35 postpartum in a commercial farm. Oocytes were obtained through the technique of transvaginal ultrasound-guided follicle aspiration. The objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic and phenotypic parameters for daily milk yield (DMY) in Black Bengal does. Genetic parameters were estimated using a residual maximum likelihood procedure, fitting an animal model while ignoring maternal genetic or permanent environmental effects. The least squares mean for DMY was 354.76 g. DMY was significantly (P < 0.01) affected by parity, litter size, and season of kidding. The heritability of DMY was low (0.15) and the fact that the trait can only be measured in females suggests that progeny testing may be the best sire selection method for this trait.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the use of Theranekron alone or in combination with intramammary antibiotic therapy for the treatment of subclinical and clinical mastitis on the recovery rate from mastitis. The study material was composed of 177 mammary lobes of 63 Holstein cows with subclinical (groups S1 and S2) and clinical mastitis (groups C1, C2, C3, and C4). In all of the treatment groups, excluding group S2, the California mastitis test scores were determined to have decreased after treatment (P < 0.05). In groups C1, C2, C3, and C4, which were treated for clinical mastitis, the somatic cell count (SCC) values were observed to have decreased. The decrease in SCC values was statistically significant except in group C2 (P < 0.01). While the SCC values were observed to have decreased in group S1 (P > 0.05), which was treated with Theranekron alone, the same values were found to …
