To study the effect of dexmedetomidine on plasma glucose, cortisol and adrenocorticotropic hormone concentrations in canine undergoing ovariohysterectomy, 24 beagles were divided into 3 groups randomly. Group A was intramuscularly injected with 2 ml of saline 10 min after surgery. Group B was intramuscularly injected with 20 μg/kg of dexmedetomidine 10 min before surgery. Group C was intramuscularly injected with 20 μg/kg of dexmedetomidine 10 min after surgery. Two milliliters of blood was collected at 3 h, on the second day and on the third day after surgery. Diarrhea in newborn calves as well as in adult dromedary camels is considered the most serious constrains of camel production. It is recorded in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia to be very high, therefore, it is necessary to investigate the role of certain pathogenic agents. In the present study, group A rotavirus was detected in 5/50 (10%) and 6/50 (12%) diarrheic samples collected from one- to three-month-old camel calves using immune chromatographic and ELISA techniques, respectively. In order to investigate the levels of oxidative stress (OS) biomarkers and cardiac troponin I (cTnI) in horses with strangles, fifty horses with strangles and twenty healthy controls were included in this study. Blood and serum samples were tested for levels of cardiac troponin I (cTnI), malondialdehyde (MDA), super oxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), nitric oxide (NO) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC). The levels of cTnI were increased in ten diseased cases while normal cTnI levels were found in the others (n=40). Little information is available about the seroprevalence of Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae infection in goats in China. In the present study, the seroprevalence of M. ovipneumoniae infection in goats was investigated in Hunan province, China between September 2015 and September 2016. A total of 750 serum samples collected from 10 herds in various administrative regions in Hunan province, China were evaluated using indirect hemagglutination assay (IHA). Antibodies to M. ovipneumoniae were tested in 234 of 750 serum samples (31.2%) (IHA titer≥1:16). An uncommon lesion was diagnosed in a 1-year-old female toco toucan (Ramphastos toco albogularis) based on microscopic examinations. Necropsy, histopathology and molecular diagnosis were carried out. At necropsy, possible granulomatous myocarditis was diagnosed in the bird and was confirmed as shown by histopathology. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) revealed an unspecific trematode species as the causative agent. Research on parasitic granulomatous myocarditis in toco toucan has been rarely reported. Therefore, it should be considered during differential diagnosis of avian granuloma cases.

Our previous report using 2014 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics demonstrated anticipated growth and higher than average pay in the profession through at least 2022 for baccalaureate degree holders (Marion & Sinde, 2015). The study evaluated the developmental changes in the mesenteric lymph nodes, thymus and spleen of West African Dwarf (WAD) goat using histological techniques. Twenty-seven WAD goats of 1 day, 2 weeks and 1 to 7 months old were used for this study. Results showed that the mesenteric lymph node of the WAD goats had poorly organized cortical and medullary areas at 1 day postnatum, and dense infiltration of lymphocytes in the cortex with a few primary lymphoid follicles at 2 and 3 months. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are currently applied as probiotics due to their benefit to pig performance. This study aimed to identify candidate LAB from pig feces and determine their antimicrobial susceptibility following an international standard recommendation. A total of 204 LAB isolates from 60 fecal samples of 30 antibiotic-free healthy fattening indigenous pigs and 30 antibiotic-free healthy fattening commercial pigs were initially screened for viability in acidic and bile conditions. This study investigated the efficacy of a recombinant adenovirus vaccine expressing E0-E2 antigens (rAd-E0-E2) of the classical swine fever virus (CSFV) and determined its minimum effective dose in rabbits. Forty rabbits were randomly divided into five groups. Three groups were immunized intramuscularly with rAd-E0-E2 at doses of 107.0, 106.0 and 105.0 IFU, respectively. CSFV C strain was administered to one group and saline to another group (negative control). Fourteen days after immunization, the animals were challenged intramuscularly with CSFV C strain. The study aimed to investigate the presence of coccidial oocysts and pathological changes in a dairy herd with the history of coccidial outbreak in Faisalabad District. Fecal samples were collected from 541 animals, including cattle (379) and buffaloes (162), and examined for protozoal infection using flotation techniques. Results revealed 2.9% presence of coccidial oocysts in the samples collected. No significant difference was found in coccidial oocysts count in species of the cattle (2.3%) and buffaloes (4.3%), sex and age group. Antibiotics can improve ruminant growth and efficiency by altering rumen fermentation via selective inhibition of microorganisms. However, antibiotic use is increasingly restricted due to concerns about the spread of antibiotic-resistance. Plant-based antimicrobials are alternatives to antibiotics in animal production. The hops plant (Humulus lupulus L.) produces a range of bioactive secondary metabolites, including antimicrobial prenylated phloroglucinols, which are commonly called alpha- and beta-acids. These latter compounds can be considered phyto-ionophores, phytochemicals with a similar antimicrobial mechanism of action to ionophore antibiotics (e.g., monensin, lasalocid). DNA methyltransferase 3A (DNMT3A) is a master epigenetic regulator of benign and malignant hematopoiesis. To dissect the biological consequences of homozygous and heterozygous Dnmt3a inactivation in malignant hematopoiesis, we generated Dnmt3a homozygous null (Dnmt3a^Δ/Δ) and Dnmt3a heterozygous (Dnmt3a^+/–) mice and compared the presentations of hematologic malignancies between cohorts. Bi-allelic inactivation of Dnmt3a results in the presentation of mature lymphoid neoplasms resembling chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL; B220⁺CD19⁺CD5⁺; 88% penetrance (37/42)) and CD8+ peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL; TCRβ⁺CD3⁺CD8⁺CD4^—; 40% penetrance (17/42)). …

Poxviruses have evolved unique proteins and mechanisms to counteract the nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway, which is an essential regulatory pathway of host innate immune responses. Here, we describe a NF-κB inhibitory virion protein of orf virus (ORFV), ORFV073, which functions very early in infected cells. Infection with ORFV073 gene deletion virus (OV-IA82Δ073) led to increased accumulation of NF-κB essential modulator (NEMO), marked phosphorylation of IκB kinase (IKK) subunits IKKα and IKKβ, IκBα and NF-κB subunit p65 (NF-κB-p65), and to early nuclear translocation of NF-κB-p65 in virusinfected cells (30 min post infection). Background: To date, genome-scale analyses in the domestic horse have been limited by suboptimal single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) density and uneven genomic coverage of the current SNP genotyping arrays. The recent availability of whole genome sequences has created the opportunity to develop a next generation, high-density equine SNP array.

Results: Using whole genome sequence from 153 individuals representing 24 distinct breeds collated by the equine genomics community, we cataloged over 23 million de novo discovered genetic variants.
