Assessing The Feasibility Of Microneedle Patches For Gnrh Immunocontraception In Mixed-Breed Dogs (Canis Familiaris), Ai-Mei Chang, Hsiao-Hui Huang, Ding-Liang Hou, Zi-Yu Lin, Mei-Chin Chen, Chen-Chih Chen, Jai-Wei Lee

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The overpopulation of free-roaming dogs poses significant risks to endemic species, public health, and the environment through predation and disease transmission. While surgical castration is effective, it raises ethical concerns regarding animal welfare. Immuno-castration offers a humane and effective alternative for population control, but a more easily administered and cost-efficient method is needed to enable widespread vaccination efforts. In this study, we aimed to employ self-dissolving microneedle patches for a simple and potentially cost-effective immunization of a recombinant GnRH-based vaccine to control fertility. Eight mongrel dogs were randomly divided into 2 groups (n=4 each) and immunized with the recombinant GnRH-based …

Antimicrobial Peptides: Could It Be An Alternative To Antibiotics In Boar Semen Extender?, Krittika Keeratikunakorn, Panida Chanapiwat, Kampon Kaeoket

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Since antimicrobial resistance is a major global issue, “One Health” approaches such as the use of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) was developed as an alternative antimicrobial agent which might be used in pig farms to reduce or replace non-rationale antibiotics usage. Although AMPs showed several effects on antimicrobial agents, including against bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses, as well as effects on host immunity, their most notable property is their ability to kill bacteria without causing damage to the host cell. Two major mechanisms of action of AMPs include membrane-active and intracellular-active. During the past decade, many AMPs have been tested for …

Local Tissue Damage Treatment Of Snake Venom, Suchitra Khunsap 2025 Research and Development Department, Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute

Local Tissue Damage Treatment Of Snake Venom, Suchitra Khunsap

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Local tissue damage caused by snake envenomation was a medical problem that caused morbidity and mortality for more than a decade, with no defined treatment guidelines. Nowadays, antivenom is the primary treatment for snakebite, which substantially reduces systemic venom but not significantly reducing local symptoms. We compiled a list of local damage therapies, including antivenom medication, surgery and skin grafting, small molecule medicines, and alternative therapies. Although each was not approved as a standard treatment, it may be a treatment option for tissue damage caused by snake venom. However, antivenoms and most resistant compounds may not be the best strategy …

Karbala International Journal of Modern Science

The viral disease affects the whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) and causes losses. Immunostimulants are recognized as a more environmentally friendly approach to disease management and antimicrobial properties of aquatic organisms. Watercress (Nasturtium officinale) is an aquatic plant species that contains antioxidant properties that can protect the organism from disease and boost the immune system. Shrimp rely heavily on innate immunity to combat infectious agents due to their absence of adaptive immunity. Peroxinectin and scavenger receptor class B (SRB) play essential roles in the shrimp defense system. This research employs a bioinformatic to assess the immunostimulatory potential …

Artificial Insemination Of Beef Heifers With Multi-Sire Semen, Dempster Christenson, Jordan M. Thomas, Daniel J. Kelly, Richard N. Funston 2025 University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Artificial Insemination Of Beef Heifers With Multi-Sire Semen, Dempster Christenson, Jordan M. Thomas, Daniel J. Kelly, Richard N. Funston

Nebraska Beef Cattle Reports

This study compared pregnancy rates of beef heifers artificially inseminated with multi-sire semen to single-sire semen. It was hypothesized pregnancy rates resulting from multi-sire semen would be increased compared to single-sire semen. Heifers were artificially inseminated with semen from one of three single-sires or semen from a combination of the same three sires. Pregnancy rates did not significantly differ. Paternity testing suggests sire parentage can be unequal when semen is mixed from multiple sires. In summary, producers can expect similar pregnancy rates using single-sire and multi-sire semen, but progeny may have unequal sire representation.
