Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment And Risk Control (Hirarc) In A Corrugated Box Manufacturer., Fraziel Barahim 2010 Universiti Malaya

Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment And Risk Control (Hirarc) In A Corrugated Box Manufacturer., Fraziel Barahim

Student Works (2010-2019)

Packaging is one of the biggest industries in the world. It involves paper, glass, metal, flexible and plastic. The corrugated paper packaging worldwide has been growing at 3% to 4% per annum. In line with the expansion of the corrugated paper packaging manufacturing, the potential hazards to human physical and health, property and the environment posed by its operations and production activities have created an increase in awareness and brought up safety issues amongst industry, government and public. The hazard identification and risk assessment plays a role in a number of areas in the safety management, including regulatory policies and guidelines, …

Heat Stress Evaluation Of Protective Clothing Ensembles, Amanda Lee Pease 2010 University of South Florida

Heat Stress Evaluation Of Protective Clothing Ensembles, Amanda Lee Pease

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Clothing directly affects the level of heat stress exposure. Useful measures to express the thermal characteristics are WBGT (wet bulb globe temperature) clothing adjustment factor (CAF) or apparent total evaporative resistance (Re,T,a). The CAF is assigned through laboratory wear trials following a heat stress protocol in which the air temperature and humidity are progressively increased until the participant clearly loses the ability to maintain thermal equilibrium. The critical condition is the point of thermal transition and from these conditions both the CAF and Re,T,a are computed. The first objective of this study is to compare the …

Industrial Heat Stress : Using Ice Slurry Ingestion As A Practical Approach To Reducing Heat Strain In Workers, Joseph E. Maté 2010 Edith Cowan University

Industrial Heat Stress : Using Ice Slurry Ingestion As A Practical Approach To Reducing Heat Strain In Workers, Joseph E. Maté

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

Personnel working in industry can encounter hot and humid conditions where uncompensable heat loads are experienced; an inability to dissipate stored heat increases the risk of developing a heat illness. In order to minimise the incidence of heat illnesses, several heat stress reduction interventions have been developed which aim to allow for safe repeated bouts of exposure to high thermal heat loads. These vary from modification of the working environment, wearing of personal protective equipment designed to cool, heat stress indices and/or hydration regimens. Despite these interventions, personnel still experience heat stress related illnesses. Consequently, the overall aim of the …

Photovoice In The Workplace, Marian Flum, Carlos Eduardo Siqueira, Anthony DeCaro, Scott Redway 2010 University of Massachusetts Boston

Photovoice In The Workplace, Marian Flum, Carlos Eduardo Siqueira, Anthony Decaro, Scott Redway

Gastón Institute Publications

Background Photovoice, a photographic participatory action research methodology was used in a workplace setting to assess hazards that were creating extremely high injury and incidents rates for university custodians and to promote the conditions to eliminate or reduce those hazards. Methods University custodians participated in a Photovoice project to identify, categorize, and prioritize occupational hazards and to discuss and propose solutions to these problems. Results were presented to management and to all custodians for further discussion. The effort was led by a worker-based union-sponsored participatory evaluation team in partnership with a university researcher. Results Visual depiction of hazardous tasks and …

How Healthy Are Hairdressers? An Investigation Of Health Problems Of Female, Western Australian Hairdressers, Mary O'Loughlin 2010 Edith Cowan University

How Healthy Are Hairdressers? An Investigation Of Health Problems Of Female, Western Australian Hairdressers, Mary O'Loughlin

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

Aim: Hairdressing is a common worldwide occupation which, in Australia, comprises largely of a female workforce. Hairdressers are exposed to a range of potential health hazards in their work environment. There is a lack of current research into common health problems experienced by Australian hairdressers. This study aims to investigate health issues experienced by this occupational group, to identify potential health problems that may be associated with their work and to identify concerns for future research. Methods: A review of current literature examining the health of hairdressers was conducted to ascertain areas of health concern for hairdressers. This …

Manual Handling Workload And Musculoskeletal Discomfort Among Warehouse Personnel, Terrance N. Knox 2010 Walden University

Manual Handling Workload And Musculoskeletal Discomfort Among Warehouse Personnel, Terrance N. Knox

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSD), specifically physical and muscular discomfort in the upper arm, lower arm, thigh, lower leg, wrist, shoulders, back, or neck, are among the most frequently reported workplace injuries in the United States. The dearth of knowledge about the types of workloads that may contribute to the development of WRMSD was the impetus of this research. The study aimed to identify antecedents of WRMSD among warehouse workers in order to reduce WRMSDs and increase productivity as expressed in a systems perspective on industrial health. The research questions examined the prevalence of specific WRMSDs, the relationship of high-risk tasks …
