Purpose: Although program directors consider several measures when assessing dietetic program applicants, grade point average (GPA) is often the most highly weighted. However, its ability to predict success in the entry-level registration examination for dietitians (RD exam) is unknown. Our objective was to determine how well GPA predicted first-time success in the RD exam. Background: Competency-based assessment (CBE) focuses on applying knowledge and skills to progress from novice to expert in clinical areas. The Future Education Model Graduate Program (FEMGP) incorporates CBE to meet enhanced competencies for nutrition and dietetics. Objective: This study explored FEMGP graduates’ perceptions of assessment methods and practices and perceptions of enhanced competency (EC) integration and preparedness for entry-level practice. When identified, victims of HT are normally treated with interprofessional team (IPT) care that often excludes Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs). Diabetes camp is helpful in providing hands-on learning experiences and interprofessional learning opportunities through immersive experiences. Currently, there is little research comparing the changes in knowledge and perception during experiential learning in dietetics students at a residential diabetes camp. This longitudinal qualitative case study explored the knowledge, perceptions, confidence, and empathy gained by four dietetics students during experiential learning at the camp. Qualitative research methods (interviews, observations, "photovoice," journals, and focus groups) were used to explore and understand participants’ experiences of hands-on involvement with type one diabetes, and what they learned at camp that cannot be learned in a classroom. …

This observational research presents multi-year findings of a project using an online case study implemented in an undergraduate Medical Nutrition Therapy class that fostered interprofessional collaboration among students from various healthcare disciplines. The case study focused on a fictional patient with an ischemic stroke and all work was virtual. Students from various allied healthcare fields were represented: dietetics and nutrition, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and social work. However, additional IPE occurs through outside experiences and throughout a dietitian’s career.

Oxysterols are metabolites of cholesterol that regulate cholesterol homeostasis. Among these, the most abundant oxysterol is 27-hydroxycholesterol (27HC), which can cross the blood-brain barrier. Because 27HC functions as an endogenous selective estrogen receptor modulator, we hypothesize that 27HC binds to the estrogen receptor α (ERα) in the brain to regulate energy balance. Supporting this view, we found that delivering 27HC to the brain reduced food intake and activated proopiomelanocortin (POMC) neurons in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus (POMCARH) in an ERα-dependent manner. Place of residence (urban versus rural) is a contextual determinant of health that has received less attention in the food insecurity literature. The purpose of this study was to assess the urban–rural disparity in the prevalence of food insecurity and weight status among US children. Using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013–2016 with three age groups of children (2–5, 6–11, and 12–17 years old), the associations of weight status and child and household food security status by urban–rural residence were examined using Rao–Scott Chi-square tests. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Children living in urban areas were significantly more likely to experience household food insecurity (29.15%) compared to their rural counterparts (19.10%), among those aged 6–11 years. The associations between children’s weight status and child and household food security status were significant for children living in urban areas overall and different age groups but not for children living in rural areas. These trends were more pronounced in older age groups. Given the link between food insecurity and higher obesity rates, particularly among urban children, this study highlights the importance of incorporating food security interventions into future obesity prevention programs.

Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is an evidence-based health care service that helps people improve their food and nutrition habits to positively influence health outcomes and quality of life, and is part of a suite of complementary interventions that can be implemented for effective disease prevention and management. Small extracellular vesicles (SEVs, “exosomes”) are natural nanoparticles that can be endogenously synthesized and also obtained from dietary sources, such as bovine milk SEVs (mEVs). mEVs have been extensively studied and discovered with contributive features that potentially play a role in drug delivery and other therapeutic purposes, such as diagnostic tools. Current studies have shown that mEVs have been used preclinically to carry in targeting drugs, nucleotides, biomolecules, and labels to target metabolic diseases and cancers. The EMDataResource Ligand Model Challenge aimed to assess the reliability and reproducibility of modeling ligands bound to protein and protein-nucleic acid complexes in cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) maps determined at near-atomic (1.9-2.5 Å) resolution. Three published maps were selected as targets: Escherichia coli beta-galactosidase with inhibitor, SARS-CoV-2 virus RNA-dependent RNA polymerase with covalently bound nucleotide analog and SARS-CoV-2 virus ion channel ORF3a with bound lipid. DNMT3A mutations are frequently found in clonal hematopoiesis and a variety of hematologic malignancies including acute myeloid leukemia (AML). An assortment of mouse models have been engineered to explore the tumorigenic potential and malignant lineage bias due to loss of function of DNMT3A in consort with commonly co-mutated genes in myeloid malignancies such as Flt3, Nras, Kras, and c-Kit. Angka kematian COVID-19 di Indonesia sebesar 3,4% dan peringkat ke-5 ditempati oleh Provinsi Sumatera Selatan. Hipertensi masih menjadi masalah kesehatan masyarakat dan menjadi faktor penyebab berkembangnya penyakit kardiovaskular. Indonesia memiliki prevalensi hipertensi tertinggi di kawasan Asia Tenggara hipertensi yaitu sebesar 41%. Kota Depok menjadi wilayah dengan prevalensi hipertensi tertinggi yaitu sebesar 22,7%. Oleh karena itu tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor hipertensi pada sopir angkot di terminal Depok. Studi cross sectional dengan jumlah sampel 84 angkot yang diwawancara menggunakan kuesioner dan tensimeter yang dilakukan pada bulan Mei-Juni 2018. Prevalensi Kehamilan Tidak Diinginkan (KTD) di Indonesia mencapai 10,7% pada tahun 2021. Pada wanita yang sudah menikah, keputusan kesehatan mencakup keputusan tentang kontrasepsi, yang idealnya melibatkan partisipasi perempuan bersama suaminya agar dapat dilakukan secara konsisten sehingga dapat mencegah KTD. Namun, data tahun 2017 menunjukkan proporsi pengambilan keputusan kesehatan perempuan yang dilakukan perempuan bersama suami hanya sebesar 43,7%. Malaria adalah masalah kesehatan yang serius dan dapat berakibat fatal, terutama pada kelompok risiko tinggi seperti bayi, anak kecil, dan ibu hamil. Selain itu, malaria juga menyebabkan anemia dan menurunkan produktivitas tenaga kerja. Pada tahun 2010, sekitar 65% kabupaten di Indonesia merupakan daerah endemis malaria, dan sekitar 45% penduduk di daerah endemis berisiko tertular malaria.
