Tolerance Of Brown-Rot And Dry-Rot Fungi To Cca And Acq Wood Preservatives, Coşkun Köse, Sai̇p Nami̇ Kartal
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Copper remains the primary biocide component used today to protect wood. Increased interest in the use of non-arsenic copper-based wood preservatives has also led to increased studies on copper-tolerant decay fungi. Oxalic acid production by brown-rot fungi is proposed as one mechanism of copper tolerance. This study evaluated oxalic acid production and copper losses from ACQ- and CCA-treated Pinus sylvestris L. and Populus × euramericana I 214 wood by brown-rot fungi: Postia placenta, Gloeophyllum trabeum, Tyromyces palustris, and 2 strains of Serpula lacrymans. There was no clear linear correlation among mass losses, oxalic acid production, or copper losses in most …

Transformation Of Some Organic Matter Components In Organic Soils Exposed To Drainage, Barbara Kalisz, Andrzej Lachacz, Roman Glazewski
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
In drained Histosols used as pastures or arable fields the muck-forming process transforms organic soil formations into muck. The rush vegetation (Caricetum acutiformis and Glycerietum maximae) covering Histosols in the organic matter accumulation stage is replaced by meadow vegetation (Molinietalia order). During sustained drainage mucks are transformed into muck-like formations that contain less than 12% organic carbon. The aim of this study was to report the changes in organic matter initiated by the muck-forming process. Soil organic matter was fractionated into humic-acid carbon, fulvic-acid carbon, and humins. The amount of carbon susceptible to oxidation with KMnO4 was also determined and, …
Plant Water Relations And Photosynthetic Activity In Three Tunisian Chickpea (Cicer Arietinum L.) Genotypes Subjected To Drought, Abdelmajid Krouma
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is an important food crop grown under rainfed conditions in Mediterranean regions in which drought is a major limiting factor for production. In these areas little attention is given to legumes, and efforts to identify drought-tolerant genotypes are primarily focused on major cereal crops. In the current study a greenhouse experiment was conducted to assess the effects of drought stress on plant growth, photosynthesis, and water relations in 3 Tunisian chickpea genotypes (Cicer arietinum L.). Drought was applied, and soil humidity was maintained at 30% of field capacity (stressed plants) or 100% of field capacity (control …

Pruning Effect On Content Of Quercetin And Catechin In Berry Skins Of Cv. Blaufränkisch (Vitis Vinifera L.), Zoran Beslic, Slavica Todic, Vele Tesevic, Milka Jadranin, Miroslav Novakovic, Dejan Tesic
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The effect of pruning severity on quercetin and catechin content in berry skins of cv. Blaufränkisch (Vitis vinifera L.) was studied over 3 years. Different crop levels and canopy structures were obtained by retaining 8, 16, and 24 nodes per vine at pruning. Canopy density, which is proportionate to the shoot number per canopy volume, directly affects the intensity of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). The quercetin content has been shown to be highly dependent on the light exposure of the berries in which it accumulates. An increase in node number linearly decreased skin catechin, and it is suggested that the …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
This study examined the effects of kinetin (KIN) and indoleacetic acid (IAA) sprayed on the leaves of salinity-stressed maize (Zea mays L. cv., DK 647 F1) plants grown in field conditions. Salt stress was created by adding 100 mM NaCl to the irrigation water through a drip irrigation system during the irrigation schedule. Kinetin (KIN), indole acetic acid (IAA), and their combinations were sprayed foliarly. Salt stress (S) reduced the total dry matter, grain yield, chlorophyll content, and relative water content (RWC), but increased electrolyte leakage and proline accumulation in the maize plants. Foliar applications of both KIN and IAA …
