Satellite remote sensing estimates of gross primary production (GPP) have routinely been made using spectral vegetation indices (VIs) over the past two decades. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), the Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI), the green band Wide Dynamic Range Vegetation Index (WDRVIgreen), and the green band Chlorophyll Index (CIgreen) have been employed to estimate GPP under the assumption that GPP is proportional to the product of VI and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) (where VI is one of four VIs: NDVI, EVI, WDRVIgreen, or CIgreen). However, the empirical regressions between VI*PAR and …

Genetic Variability Of Bilaterally Symmetrical Fruits Of Norway Maple In Function Of Species Biodiversity Conservation, Isidora Simovic, Mirjana Ocokoljic, Dragica Obratov-Petkovic, Dragica Vilotic
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Parkway trees in urban environments have a pivotal ecological role, primarily because they modify microclimatological parameters. Norway maple is a suitable species for these purposes since it is very adaptable to city conditions. This characteristic of Norway maple allows urban trees to be used as a basis for biodiversity conservation. Bilaterally symmetrical fruits of Norway maple are particularly convenient for the exploration of developmental stability and the role of genetic and environment in variability of morphological characteristics of Norway maple. Variability change through different conditions could be used for creation of a scale that could serve to predict morphology of …

Moreover, a significant positive correlation was indicated between shoot dry materials with relative water content percentage, sucrose, catalase activity, ascorbate peroxidase activity, and cytosolic ascorbate peroxidase relative gene expression ratio. Antioxidant enzymatic activity and the association between gene transcript levels and …
Generation Of Transgenic Sugar Beet (Beta Vulgarism L.) Overexpressing The Polygalacturonase Inhibiting Protein 1 Of Phaseolus Vulgaris (Pvpgip1) Through Agrobacterium-Mediated Transformation, Reza Mohammadzadeh, Mostafa Motallebi, Mohamadreza Zamani, Zahra Moghaddassi Jahromi, Peyman Norouzi, Manuel Benedetti, Giulia De Lorenzo
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Numerous diseases caused by fungal pathogens influence the annual production of sugar beet. In order to obtain a plant resistant to fungi, genetic transformation has been applied to the sugar beet. To invade a plant tissue, phytopathogenic fungi produce several cell wall-degrading enzymes (CWDEs); polygalacturonases (PGs) are pathogenicity factors produced at the earlier stages of a fungal infection that depolymerize the homogalacturonan. One of the strategies used by plants to limit the degradation of the cell wall polysaccharides by fungal CWDEs is the production of proteinaceous inhibitors. Against fungal, microbial, and insect PGs, plants produce cell wall-associated polygalacturonase-inhibiting proteins (PGIPs). …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) genotypes were evaluated to study genetic variation and the relationship between yield and its component using a randomized complete block design during 2013/14. The results showed significant variance among genotypes of all traits. The phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) for all the characters was slightly higher than genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV), which signified the presence of environmental influence to some degree in the phenotypic expression of characters. Dry fruit weight had the highest PCV (52.47) and GCV (48.26). The estimates of narrow sense heritability (h2) were observed to be lower than those of broad …

Identification And Functional Annotation Of Expressed Sequencetags Based Ssr Markers Of Stevia Rebaudiana, Rajinder Kaur, Neha Sharma, Ravinder Raina
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni, a perennial herb belonging to the family Asteraceae, is a tropical as well as subtropical plant of medicinal importance. Despite being an important medicinal plant and in fact proving a boon to diabetics, it has remained almost ignored by molecular biologists. A systematic molecular evaluation of stevia germplasm and molecular breeding work are sparsely reported mainly due to the limited specific molecular markers available. Expressed sequence tags (ESTs) are a valuable resource for developing simple sequence repeats (SSRs). In this study, 5548 stevia ESTs sequences from leaf tissues were retrieved from the NCBI database. Clustering and assembly …

Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Discovery Through Illumina-Based Transcriptome Sequencing And Mapping In Lentil, Hülya Yilmaz Temel, Deni̇z Göl, Hi̇lal Betül Kaya Akkale, Abdullah Kahri̇man, Muhammed Bahatti̇n Tanyolaç
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Lentil, which belongs to the family Leguminosae (Fabaceae), is a diploid (2n = 2x = 14 chromosomes) self-pollinating crop with a genome size of 4063 Mbp. Because of its nutritional importance and role in the fixation of nitrogen from the atmosphere, lentil is a widely used crop species in molecular genetic studies. By using DNA markers, to date, a limited number of polymorphic bands have been generated. Therefore, it is necessary to develop additional markers to saturate the genome at high density. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers are promising for this purpose because of their abundance, stability, and heredity; they …

Camellia sinensis L. is one of the most economically important crops in the world today. The leaves of this plant are harvested for tea production on a massive scale through a process that requires a large amount of inorganic nitrogen (N). However, knowledge of how inorganic nitrogen regulates the growth physiology of C. sinensis L. remains limited. In order to investigate its effects on gas exchange, N assimilation, and the efficiency of N use in C. sinensis L., we carried out experiments with 4 cultivars (WNZ, YS, ZN139, and LJ43) under 4 different treatments: 1) a control treatment, 2) a …
