Red line chili and pickled chili juice were mixed in a 11 (w/w) ratio, and inoculated with Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Leu-conostoc mesenteroides to get fermentation. The lactobacillus inoculation quantity, fermentation temperature and fermentation time were selected as the experimental factors, and the lactic acid content was used as the response value. The single factor and response surface test were designed to optimize the fermentation process. The best conditions for optimization were as follows: inoculation 6%, fermenting at 35 ℃ for 6 days. The validation test results showed that the fermented pepper products’ lactic acid content was 0.74% and …

Study On Umami Peptide Extracted From Three Enzymatic Hydrolysates With Ethanol, Yao Yujing, Yang Zhao, Huang Jiajia, Han Jinhui, Liang Zhili, Cui Chun
Food and Machinery
The compound enzyme composed of trypsin and flavour protease was used to hydrolysate the oyster, chicken and antarctic krill. Taking sensory score, peptide molecular weight distribution and amino acid composition as indexes, the change of them was investigated during ethanol extraction of umami peptide from 3 kinds of hydrolysates. Results showed that the sensory evaluation of supernatant of the 3 enzymatic hydrolysates extracted by 90% ethanol showed strong umami taste and the peptide ratio of the peptide molecular weight distribution < 5 ku from oyster, chicken and Antarctic krill was 93%, 86.82%, 87.86%, respectively . The peptides of 3 enzyme hydrolysates > 10 ku and 5~10 ku were significantly reduced after 90% ethanol extraction. The small molecular peptides of the supernatant of …

In order to study the effect of low-power microwave treatment on the postharvest quality of Kyoho grape, the grapes were treated with 32.5, 65.0, 97.5 and 130.0 W microwave respectively. The untreated grapes were used as the control, and all Kyoho grape stored at 0~2 ℃ for 40 days. The results showed that the low-power microwave treatment below 97.5 W had positive effect on the preservation of grape, which could prolong the ripening and senescence of Kyoho grape. The group with 32.5 W low-power microwave treatment had the best effect compared with the control in the end of storage period.which inhibited …

Premature judgment mechanism of particle swarm is established with fitness function. Adaptive adjustment of particle inertia weigh and acceleration factor of anti cosine strategy are optimized particle swarm to give the apple surface defect process. Simulation results show that improved particle swarm algorithm is more clearer detecting the defect of apple surface, the maximum missing rate test index is 4.5%, and less than other algorithms, and the least time comsuming in complete the missing rate, so that it is the new method for quality detection of apple.

Factors Affecting Illinois Legislators' Perceptions Of School-Based Agricultural Education, Perry William Harlow
Theses and Dissertations
This study examined factors contributing to Illinois General Assembly members’ perceptions of school-based agricultural education. Personal characteristics and multiple media sources were examined to determine if any of these factors affected their perception of school-based agricultural education. These factors included the population area of where the legislator grew up, the population area of the district the legislator represents, the geographical location of the legislator’s district, whether the legislator lived on a farm, and whether the legislator worked on a farm. The factors also included frequency of seeing information about school-based agricultural education on multiple media source including television, radio, newspaper, …

In this paper, we report on aluminum (Al)-induced root proteomic changes in switchgrass. After growth in a hydroponic culture system supplemented with 400 μM of Al, plants began to show signs of physiological stress such as a reduction in photosynthetic rate. At this time, the basal 2-cm long root tips were harvested and divided into two segments, each of 1-cm in length, for protein extraction. Al-induced changes in proteomes were identified using tandem mass tags mass spectrometry (TMT-MS)-based quantitative proteomics analysis. A total of 216 proteins (approximately 3.6% of total proteins) showed significant differences between non-Al treated control and treated …

Functional Trait Differences Between Native Bunchgrasses And The Invasive Grass Bromus Tectorum, Huiqin H.E., Thomas A. Monaco, Thomas A. Jones
Forage and Range Research Laboratory Publications
We conducted 30- and 60-d greenhouse experiments to compare functional traits of Bromus tectorum (invasive annual grass) and four perennial bunchgrasses under well-watered or drought conditions. Even under drought, B. tectorum experienced significantly less stress (i.e., higher xylem pressure potential and greater shoot water content, water use per day and water-use efficiency) and biomass production than the perennial grasses after 30 d. However, after 60 d, its superiority was reduced under infrequent watering. Differences among perennial grasses were more pronounced for physiological traits under infrequent watering and for morphological traits under frequent watering. Elymus multisetus (fastgrowing species) had a higher …

Forage kochia (Bassia prostrata) is used for rangeland reclamation and livestock and wildlife forage, but limited research has been conducted on its seed production. Therefore, this research evaluated the effect of harvest date on seed weight, germination, and seed yield of forage kochia subspecies virescens and grisea. Seed was harvested from individual plants for 3 years during October, November, and December. October harvest had the lightest 100-seed weights, with the November harvest slightly heavier than December, for most accessions. Cultivar Snowstorm and breeding line Sahsel, both subsp. grisea, had the greatest 100-seed weights in November, 155 …

The study was conducted to evaluate the impact of two planting dates and methods on snap bean yields in a tunnel house. The main plots included planting dates March 17 and 31, 2016 for first and second plantings. The sub-plots consisted of planting Method 1 where one seed per hill was planted every 4” apart, and planting Method 2 where three seeds per hill were planted every 12” apart; each treatment combination was replicated four times. The results of the study showed that it took 55 days for the snap beans to be ready for harvest for both planting dates. …
