Determination Of Timeliness Cost Using Method Of Average Workability Robability Based On Reliability Function Of Farm Tractors, Mohammad Poozesh, Javad Tarighi

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

There is an optimum time for implementing field operation of a crop in each region. If the operation were accomplished sooner or later, it might cause a reduction in yield quantity and quality that is named timeliness cost. The purpose of this study is to survey the timeliness cost of harvesting operation of sugar cane based on reliability function of MF285 tractors operating in Debal Khazaei Agro-Industry Co. in Khuzestan, a province of Iran. MF285 tractors have low reliability in Iran, and due to their low reliability have an uncertainty in implementation of farm operation, though it is not …

Evaluation Of ‘Mortgage Lifter’ Tomato For High Tunnel Production, Lewis Jett 2020 West Virginia University

Evaluation Of ‘Mortgage Lifter’ Tomato For High Tunnel Production, Lewis Jett

Midwest Vegetable Trial Reports

The ‘Mortgage Lifter’ tomato has historical roots in West Virginia and central Appalachia. The strain which is most often associated with West Virginia is the ‘Radiator Charlie Mortgage Lifter’ which is a red to pink beefsteak slicing tomato (Figure 1). In 2018, several heritage tomato varieties were evaluated within high tunnels in West Virginia. High Tunnels significantly improved yield and quality of all varieties, and ‘Mortgage Lifter’ had marketable yields comparable to hybrid tomato cultivars. Wholesale marketing high tunnel tomatoes is usually not profitable but concentrating on unique, heritage varieties with high flavor for direct marketing is the best strategy …

2020 Nebraska Property Tax Issues, J. David Aiken 2020 University of Nebraska - Lincoln

2020 Nebraska Property Tax Issues, J. David Aiken

Cornhusker Economics

Nebraska property taxes are the ninth highest in the United States. Nebraska ranks 41st in terms of property taxes (a smaller number means lower property taxes, while a higher number means high- er property taxes). By comparison, Missouri ranks 7th, Colorado is 14th, Kansas is 20th, South Dako- ta is 22nd, Iowa is 35th, and Wyoming is 39th. So Nebraska property taxes are high both regionally and nationally.

Nebraska sales taxes are the ninth-lowest, and both state income taxes and total state taxes are in the middle. Property taxes account for 38% of total state and local tax collections in …

Thoroughbred Racehorse Welfare Through The Lens Of ‘Social License To Operate—With An Emphasis On A U.S. Perspective, Camie Heleski, C. Jill Stowe, Julie Fiedler, Michael L. Peterson, Colleen Brady, Carissa Wickens, James N. MacLeod 2020 University of Kentucky

Macleod

Agricultural Economics Faculty Publications

This review addresses the question of whether Thoroughbred horse racing is sustainable in the context of current social values. A recently acknowledged framework, known as ‘Social License to Operate’ (SLO), provides us with a lens through which to view and assess racehorse welfare. In multiple surveys of the general public, the horse owning public, and university students, the primary topics of concern regarding Thoroughbred racing show considerable concordance: concern about catastrophic injuries—particularly as related to track surfaces, concern over the racing of two-year-olds, whip use by jockeys, drug/medication policies, and aftercare opportunities for retired Thoroughbred racehorses. Legitimacy of an industry, …

Three Profit Fundamentals Of Agricultural Production, Matthew Stockton 2020 University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Three Profit Fundamentals Of Agricultural Production, Matthew Stockton

Cornhusker Economics

There is nothing magical or mythical about making a profit. Each ranch/farm business has unique challenges and complexities. This fact makes it easy for operators to become overwhelmed or distracted from the fundamental factors that drive profitability. Each decision made in the farm or ranch business has an impact on profitability through one of three fundamental paths- cost, revenue and their common link productivity. As a result of being involved in the University of Nebraska Testing Ag Performance Solutions (UNL-TAPS) competition in North Platte for the last several years, I have observed some very striking factors that have helped teams …

The State Of Sustainable Agriculture And Agroecology Research And Impacts: A Survey Of U.S. Scientists, Marcia DeLonge, Tali Robbins, Andrea Basche, Lindsey Haynes-Maslow 2020 Union of Concerned Scientists

The State Of Sustainable Agriculture And Agroecology Research And Impacts: A Survey Of U.S. Scientists, Marcia Delonge, Tali Robbins, Andrea Basche, Lindsey Haynes-Maslow

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications

A growing body of research suggests that although sustainable agriculture, particularly agroecology, can address challenges such as those related to climate change, ecosystem services, food insecurity, and farmer livelihoods, the transition to such systems remains limited. To gain insight into the state of U.S. sustainable agriculture and agroecology, we developed a 28-question mixed-method survey that was administered to scientists in these fields. Respondents (N=168) represented diverse locations, institutions, and career stages. They offered varied definitions of sustainable agriculture, with 40% considering economic and social well-being to be core components. Respondents identified the amount and duration of public research funding as …

Soil Quality Indices Based On Long-Term Conservation Cropping Systems Management, Helen C.S. Amorim, Amanda J. Ashworth, Brian J. Wienhold, Mary C. Savin, Fred L. Allen, Arnold M. Saxton, Phillip R. Owens, Nilton Curi

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications

The Soil Management Assessment Framework (SMAF) may provide insight into how conservation practices affect soil quality (SQ) regionally. Therefore, we aimed to quantify SQ in a long-term (15-yr) crop rotation and bio-covers experiment under notillage using SMAF. Main effects were cropping rotations of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.], corn (Zea mays L.), and cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). Split-block biocover treatments consisted of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), Austrian winter pea (Pisum sativum L. sativum var. arvense), hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth), poultry litter, and fallow (control). Seven SQ indicators—soil pH, total organic carbon (TOC), bulk density (BD), soil extractable P …
