Abstract

This paper examines professional development of cataloguers in electronic era in academic library in selected private universities, Osun state. The research was necessitated by the postulation that cataloguers competency depend on their professional development. Two research questions were drawn and the population of the study was made up of 8 cataloguers. Data was collected through questionnaire. This study examined the use of social media for information service delivery in Olusegun Oke Library LAUTECH Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. We investigated whether individuals believe they have a right to information during a crisis, and whether attitudes about crisis-related information sharing differ by age and one’s role in providing or consuming information. We measured attitudes about aspects of data sharing related to COVID-19: researchers’ obligation to share data, publishers’ obligation to share information, and libraries’ responsibility to provide them. We predicted younger individuals, especially students as consumers of information, would report stronger preference for open access to pandemic-related information. This study investigated the level of information literacy skills and use of EIRs by undergraduates in the Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa state, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive research design and questionnaire as a data collection instrument. From a population of 3043 undergraduates, a multi-stage random technique was used to select a sample size of 242 undergraduates for the study. The results indicated that 131 (51.4%) of the respondents “Strongly agreed” that they use the Internet in the course of their stay at the university. The keynote presented the development of institutional repositories (IR) by universities in Singapore. The relevant policies on open access and research data were introduced. The importance of IR alignment with institutional goals was highlighted. Besides research publications, IRs could also host special collections of the institution or the community. The collaboration and sharing of best practices among Singapore academic libraries helped them to better support research at their institutions.

This study examines the effects of the data source on citation metrics and faculty rankings by comparing three sources of legal scholarship citation data: Google Scholar, Westlaw, and HeinOnline. It compares six years of citations to works by all of the tenured and tenure-track members of the top twenty-eight faculties as determined by two recent legal citation studies. The methodology used in this study includes Annual Growth Rate (AGR), Relative Growth Rate (RGR), and Doubling Time (Dt), as well as countries and institutions. Abstract

The study investigated the use of social media networking sites and academic performance of Library and Information Science (LIS) undergraduates in federal universities in Southern Nigeria. In carrying out this study, three research questions and one null hypotheses were tested at P < 0.05. Descriptive survey design was utilized for the study. The population for the study is 1,440 undergraduates in the Department of Library and Information Science in federal universities in Southern Nigeria. The total enumeration and accidental sampling techniques were used for this study. The instruments used for this study were a questionnaire with the title “Usage of Social Networking Sites and Academic Performance Questionnaire (USNSAPQ)” and the Cumulative Grade Point Average Scores of the undergraduates for 2015/2016 academic session. The data obtained were analysed, using frequency, mean, standard deviation and Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistic. Findings revealed that the academic performance of undergraduates in LIS was in good standing. The reasons for undergraduates’ usage of social networking sites were to communicate and interact with friends, to send and receive messages from friends, to read news update, to be informed about social events and for leisure/entertainment. Undergraduates never made use of social networking sites for academic purposes. It was further revealed that there was no significant relationship between usage of social networking sites and academic performance of undergraduates. The study recommended among others that orientation, workshop and seminar should be organized by librarians and university authorities on the use of social media sites for academic purpose. Undergraduates’ attendance at such orientations, workshop and seminars should be made compulsory.

According to the statistics, VNMKV University library uploaded the most thesis materials for M. Sc. (80.34 %) degree course related thesis documents followed by Ph.D. (9.68 %) and M. Tech. (3.36% ) degree courses respectively. Thesis-type documents were discovered to be the most prevalent (99.01%), followed by Other Publications (0.60%.) and Reports (0.38 %) .
