Planning And Implementing A Virtual Open House, 2021-2022, Holly M. Surbaugh, Adrienne Warner

Outreach and instruction librarians at the University of New Mexico, Main Campus launched the asynchronous, online Virtual Open House program during the 2021 lockdown in order to transition from “before-times” in-person tours to the paradigm of fully remote services. After a successful pilot, the program has continued as a sustainable, longer-term solution to staffing constraints even after University Libraries reopened to the public. This file collection captures planning documents and other program artifacts that will prove useful in replicating this event at other libraries.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the development of Dataverse, a global research data management consortium. The authors examine specifically the institutional characteristics, the utilization of the associated data sets and the relevant research data management services at its participating university libraries. This evidence-based approach is essential for understanding the current state of research data management practices in the global context. Design/methodology/approach: The data was collected from 67 participants’ data portals between December 1, 2020, and January 31, 2021. Mixed forces shaped global publishing activity in 2021. The spread of different COVID-19 variants throughout the world still caused hardship and widespread social distancing. At the same time, the rollout of vaccines helped to contain the pandemic’s impact and enabled a recovery of the global economy, which grew by around 6 percent in 2021. The preliminary release of data from WIPO’s global survey of publishing activity shows that recovery extended to the publishing industry. Many libraries, academic institutions, governmental and archival institutions are establishing and implementing institutional repositories. In Ghana, despite the growth of institutional repositories in some of the universities, the Public Records and Archives Administration Department (PRAAD), which holds the country’s cultural heritage and history still, manages manual records. This study established the extent to which first generation publishing houses in South-west Nigeria have integrated modern electronic resources into the industry. Further, it investigated the degree of usage of electronic resources among the two major production staff in publishing houses. It also correlated the availability of electronic resources with job satisfaction among the staff.
