Citizen Web Archivists: Applying Web Archiving As A Pedagogical Tool, Kayla Harris, Christina A. Beis, Stephanie Shreffler

Librarians and archivists preserve information on the Internet through web archiving, but undergraduate students may not have considered that information on the Internet is not always permanent. The asynchronous program, Citizen Web Archiving: Preserving Websites for the Common Good, taught students what web archiving is, why it’s important, the ethics of collecting information on the Internet, and how they could contribute to the historical record by archiving websites they deemed important via the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine. The results suggest further opportunities for involving undergraduate students with web archiving initiatives at institutions, and using web archiving as a pedagogical tool.

The right to be forgotten has been evolving for decades along with the progress of different statutes and cases and, finally, independently enacted by the General Data Protection Regulation, making it widely applied across Europe. However, the related provisions in the regulation fail to enable machine learning systems to realistically forget the personal information which is stored and processed therein.

This article is about an assignment I do in one of my Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies social movement classes. I revised the assignment the first time teaching the class after Trump lost the 2020 election. The study examined the research data management and related services offered by South Asian countries' academic libraries. Research applied quantitative approach and survey research design method were used for this study. The survey questionnaire was distributed randomly to academic library professionals in five countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The sample population comprised 67 library professionals from various institutes of five countries. The study’s findings revealed that 83.6% of institute libraries provide research data management services to their users. The study recommends that institutes or funding organizations support staff to attend conferences and workshops on research data management, …

When Utah’s three law libraries closed their doors in March 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, legal practitioners, researchers, and self-represented litigants lost access to the superseded Utah Code Annotated (UCA), which existed only in print form at these three libraries. Access to the UCA was restored in early 2021 through an LSTA grant-funded project that digitized UCA volumes and pocket parts from 1943-1995 and disseminated these materials via an open access Digital Commons collection.

Whenever something new comes they need to update themselves. A study investigated E-Resources management and management issues of Indian library professional perspectives. In the spring of 2021, the Tredway Library at Augustana College (Rock Island, IL) implemented an audit of the library's print book collection to see if there were gaps in representation of the voices of authors of differing races/ ethnicities; genders; or sexual orientations. With the results of this audit, Augustana librarians now have a better understanding of which voices and perspectives are missing and/or underrepresented in the print collection. This toolkit is intended to assist other libraries / information organizations in undertaking similar diversity audits of their own.

In order to increase the value and discoverability of their metadata, libraries explore options for making that data available and useful outside of the data silo of the library world through the adoption of Linked Data and Linked Open Data (LOD). OCLC Research conducted its 2018 International Linked Data Survey for Implementers. Results showed that 41% of the linked data projects/services described in 2018 were reported as using Wikidata as a source they consumed. This study brings to light the level of awareness, adoption, preferred and readiness for the incorporation of emerging technologies into academic libraries activities in Nigeria. While Ann Allen Shockley’s literary career has received a wealth of critique, her work as a librarian and her writings about Black Special Collections have not received as much analysis. When viewed through the lens of Critical Race Theory (CRT), Shockley emerges as an activist- librarian, one worthy of further study and consideration. Her writing and instruction on Black special collections highlight the liberatory potential of collection building to address the marginalization that traditional cataloging and classification systems impose on materials about the experiences of Black people.
