Pizza With A Side Of Outreach: Re-Invigorating Library Outreach At Distance Campuses, Teagan Eastman, Erin Davis

In Fall 2016, we began hosting library open houses at our Regional Campuses (RC). In collaboration with our RC administrators and student government, these events serve as an ice-breaker for interactions between librarians and students. They raise awareness of library resources and services and ease anxiety about reaching out to the library for assistance, while providing food as an incentive to meet with us.

In this column, I give a brief overview of five ways that libraries can be incorporated into a learning management system (LMS), ordered from easiest to most difficult to scale, or in other words, least to most personal:

• Insert the library in the LMS template
• Offer embeddable LibGuides to faculty
• Create a collection of graded modules for faculty use
• Create an online library mini-course
• Embed a librarian in a course

In March 2015, Wilfrid Laurier University administration announced that WLU Press would be integrating with the Laurier Library. Media coverage of this announcement has been mixed, and is an indication of the ambivalent response to library-press collaborations or integrations, in both the university press and library communities. This article considers the WLU case at its current early stage of development, discussing this transformation not necessarily as “progress” but as one response to a rapidly shifting scholarly environment. Utilising Social Media To Improve Relationship Quality: The Case Of The University Library, Melissa N. Clark, Scott Bacon

As the centre of academic life at a university, the university library plays an important role in how students perceive their relationship with the university. This study analyses the effect that participation in library social media has on student perception of relationship quality with the university. The hypotheses proposed in this study were found to be substantiated: following the library on social media is positively related to a student's perception of their relationship quality with the university; students interested in multiple library services are likely to report the perception of a higher quality relationship with the university.

One of the most fruitful collaborative relationships a library can have is with its Friends of the Library organization, providing that group is vibrant and progressive. This article provides insight into the history of the Friends of the Library group at a regional comprehensive university since its founding in 1962 to nearly becoming defunct in 2015. The steps taken in the transformation of the Friends of the Library since then from an inactive group with no clear direction, to a robust organization with an active board who have identified goals and strategies for successful library advocacy are described. Abstract

This paper notes that workers in a bid to be productive in order to actualise oganisational goals, become overloaded with tasks. This naturally leads to feeling pressure which can result in stress feelings of not being satisfied with the job situation workers find themselves in. These are issues discussed in relation to library staff in six universities in three states in South – South region of Nigeria. Questionnaire was instrument used for data gathering and administered to 102 academic librarians working in the universities under study. In the spirit of this year’s theme of “opening access,” our panel highlights how library faculty are making technology more accessible for the CUNY community. Despite the rising costs of journal prices and the stagnation of library budgets, librarians have employed low-cost and free techniques to improve access to library services. The panelists’ projects provide helpful examples of CUNY librarians’ work to increase access for our communities through technology.

This presentation will share the experiences at one university that took a collaborative approach to building an institutional repository and creating a scholarly communication program on campus. All aspects of the collaboration and process will be discussed including successes, failures, roadblocks and campus-wide wins. Presenters will discuss on how the library leveraged their knowledge to solidify a relationship with the Office of Research, the Faculty Center, and other partners around campus to stimulate need and engage in conversations with faculty and administrators.
