Twenty-first century Nigeria may be described as the era of democracy yet freedom to publish, which is one of the hallmarks of true democracy, seem to be endangered more than ever before. Conversation around this subject has, however, been superficial, lacking in both historical and empirical depth. The aim of this study, therefore, is to investigate the origin, methods and motivations of censorship in Nigeria with a view to deepening the understanding of this phenomenon. Background: Although many libraries have offered 3D printing as a service or available technology, there is a lack of information on course-integrated programs for 3D printing in which the library played a primary role. Therefore, librarians at the Touro College School of Health Sciences began exploring 3D printing for inclusion in the occupational and physical therapy curriculum. Case Presentation: The goal of this project was to educate occupational and physical therapy students and faculty about the potential applications of 3D printing in health care and provide hands-on experience, while increasing collaboration between librarians and faculty. While there are many conferences for information workers, very few highlight the voices of marginalized identities and provide a platform for discussion for their research interests. According to a 2010 American Library Association survey, 88% of credentialed librarians identify as white. In our vision for this summit and the future of libraries, People of Color in Library and Information Science Summit at Loyola Marymount University encouraged the representation of diverse topics and perspectives and as a part of this work acknowledged that the racial disparities we see in the library and information science (LIS) field reflect inequities in other parts …

Building Community Through Festival: Library Orientation On The Quad, Jennifer L.A. Whelan, Laura L. Wilson

Each fall, the Libraries at the College of the Holy Cross host a library orientation festival, “LibFest,” to introduce first-year students to our services. To enhance the festival atmosphere, LibFest is hosted outside with a variety of giveaways and entertainment, including a local food truck. The event provides opportunities for students to informally meet and chat with library staff, while simultaneously learning about our services. Over time, LibFest has grown into a substantial event located in the heart of the campus, encompassing all library departments and branches as well as offices with which we frequently partner. Pearl Weiler Von Allmen was employed at the University of Louisville School of Law Library from 1940 to 1947 and from 1950 to her untimely death in 1974, going from a library assistant to a tenured full professor and president of the regional law library association. This article highlights many of the accomplishments in the career of a librarian who left an indelible mark on the School of Law.

Preservation is the appropriate housing, protection, care and maintenance of archives, records and manuscripts. It should be taken seriously in order to preserve the cultural, social and technical context of our heritage. This study investigates the preservation of library resources in Nigerian universities via a study of collections in Cross River State universities. Through descriptive survey research design, the study adopts Ruskin’s theory of preservation (Ruskin, 1989) with an emphasis on the seven lamps of architecture. Supporting the career development of your library faculty and staff can help you retain highly qualified employees and develop your next leaders. In 2017, the presenters’ university library embraced a new initiative to support our employees in their career goals. Through a partnership with the university Career & Academic Planning office, the mid-sized academic library developed and implemented an immersive program focused on the participants’ career goals. This study investigated research skills, ICT application and sustainable library development. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The population of the study was 142 librarians working in the university libraries of twelve universities in South-west, Nigeria. Purposive sampling technique and total enumeration sampling technique were employed for the study. Data were collected using well-structured questionnaire. Six research questions were raised and three hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using Pearson-Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. My goal was to determine whether my institution was ready for a faculty OER grant program pilot and design one that would be both effective and sustainable. Are you struggling to find the balance between an informative and entertaining library orientation program? This interactive presentation will explore how librarians overcame numerous challenges to develop an engaging, scalable first-year library orientation session. During the orientation, students use the library’s virtual and physical spaces to solve clues and reveal a four-digit lockbox combination. Retiring The Mack: Preparing Campus Community For Library Construction Project, Ady Dewey

Strategic Public Relations Projects

The Bridgewater campus was on the verge of a dramatic change as the Alexander Mack Memorial Library transformed into the John Kenny Forrer Learning Commons. The project impacted every student as the Mack closed its doors in May 2018, library services were moved to another building and warehouse, and new study spaces were created on campus. Despite this project touching every current and prospective student, there was not a distinct communication plan to reach this audience.
