The main aim of this survey was to assess the status of librarians' communication skills in public libraries of Mashhad, Iran. The research population included all the librarians (n = 70) employed in the public libraries. The desired sample (n=59) was selected based on Krejcie and Morgan’s sample size table through simple random sampling. A researcher-made questionnaire of communication skills was used to collect data. The collected data were analyzed via the SPSS using descriptive and inferential statistics. This research examined the beliefs and actions of US midwestern librarians concerning intellectual freedom and collection development. The results are presented in two complementary articles; the first article provided some background and the results pertaining to intellectual freedom, whereas the second article focuses on the results for collection development questions and concludes with a broader discussion. While the first article focused on intellectual freedom beliefs, the second focuses more on actions that are thought to be influenced by those beliefs. This study investigated the extent perception predicts social media utilization by librarians in universities in Southern Nigeria. The correlational survey design was adopted. The study was built on some elements of TAM. The population comprised a total of 174 professional librarians in universities in Southern Nigeria. Total enumeration technique was used to sample the 174 professional librarians in the libraries. The questionnaire was used for collecting data. This program delved into the benefits you can gain from cultivating a network of mentors and trusted advisors. Participants learned how to find their own mentor or advisor, how to build that relationship, why more than one mentor or advisor may be helpful, and why you are never too old (or experienced) to need a mentor. Participants had a hands-on opportunity to create their own mentorship plan by defining what they need from a mentor, how to find someone who can fulfill those needs, and how to begin developing that relationship.

Shush: A Creative (Re)Construction stems from work conducted during a sabbatical in fall 2017. The audio piece, Shush Me Awake, is a composition that explores the shush as a performative act. The accompanying framing essay uses an autoethnographic approach to provide a contextualized look at the composition process for this piece, while simultaneously situating it within existing scholarship in library and information studies on the image of the librarian and stereotypes. The composer notes provide additional technical details about the audio piece itself.

Contingent Appointments In Academic Libraries: Management Challenges And Opportunities, Marta Bladek

Academia’s overwhelming reliance on non-tenure track, or contingent, faculty is a well known fact. While the status and working conditions of contingent classroom faculty have been well studied and documented, the corresponding trend in academic libraries has not been explored as deeply. As this paper reviews the limited LIS literature on the subject, it aims to provide administrators and managers with a deeper understanding of the benefits and drawbacks of contingent appointments. It also offers strategies for fostering a workplace culture that recognizes contingent librarians’ contributions and promotes their professional growth.

Decades of educational researchers have attempted to link teacher characteristics—such as how teachers are prepared, which credentials they carry, and years of experience—to student outcomes. Queer library workers face the decision of how and when to express their gender identities and sexual orientations at work. In what ways does being “out” in the library workplace impact our work? This coauthored chapter brings together the perspectives of two academic librarians, a current LIS grad student, and an academic library administrator to provide multiple ways of seeing the complexities of expressing gender identity and sexual orientation in the library workplace. We discuss the intersection of library values, politics, change management, patron interactions, and work environments.

The importance of open access (OA) advocacy is well-documented in the literature of academic librarianship, but previous research shows that librarians' OA behaviors are less conclusive. This article compares the self-archiving practices of music librarians and musicologists to see how librarians rank in OA adoption. Availability of articles published from 2013 to 2017 in six green OA journals in music librarianship and musicology indicates a need for continued advocacy and enhanced understanding of OA policies and opportunities.

Introduction: This study conducted to assess the discipline specific and general skill level of librarians working in libraries of the top three Iranian medical universities in Tehran.

Methods: The survey was carried out among all 115 librarians working in the libraries of Iran, Tehran and Shahid-Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and one-way ANOVA.

This paper explores the representation of librarians within two popular types of online imagery: stock photographs and memes. While the representation of librarians in popular media has been explored before, these particular media have not and are distinct in that they are often created by amateurs with little professional editorial mediation. This study builds upon Seale’s librarian archetypes and Attebury’s revisions in order to compare these new medias to traditional depictions of the profession. Each of us uses standards daily - from USB ports to elevators to lights, automobiles, bridges, standardized train tracks, and much more.
