Shrines And Pilgrimages: Documenting Mary's Role In The Pandemic, Kayla Harris
Shrines And Pilgrimages: Documenting Mary's Role In The Pandemic, Kayla Harris
Marian Library Faculty Presentations
A 1997 special report in Scientific American claimed that the average lifespan of a website was only 44 days. A study in 2001 put that at 75 days, while a 2003 article indicated 100 days. Everything on the Internet doesn’t last forever. The Marian Library has collected material related to the Blessed Virgin Mary since its founding in 1943. Increasingly, some of the material that would have once been printed, and possibly made their way to the Marian Library archives, is now being shared only electronically. Things like shrine Mass schedules, news articles, or blog posts are available on websites, …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Explores change in libraries from the point-of-view of a lifelong learner situated in space/time. Change itself occurs over time as debated in physics from Einstein until recently with Barbour and Smolin. Bergson’s ‘dureé’ performs work in understanding time as well as frames a context to understand time as change-of-state. Uses ‘the mind’ in place of the change scenario itself in order to promote a view by which a mind can self-critique and engage change. Explores ‘now’ in time and consciousness as defined by a ‘model of mind’ with an eye towards finding motivations for embracing hard change using anti-fragility (Taleb) …

University Libraries Publications
How libraries affect student success has become an increasingly important question to many academic librarians. To investigate this phenomenon, we explored student success via two approaches in this multimethod study: 1) through individual student interviews to capture the student voice; and 2) through hierarchical linear and logistic modeling of institutional data to capture the institutional perspective. Through the qualitative component, students articulated how they define success and how the library contributes to their success, especially in terms of providing a sense of belonging and facilitating the work of a community of scholars. The quantitative data provides additional context by demonstrating …
