Should We Flip The Script?: A Literature Review Of Deficit-Based Perspectives On First-Year Undergraduate Students’ Information Literacy, Tatiana Pashkova-Balkenhol, Mark Lenker, Emily Cox, Elizabeth Kocevar-Weidinger

This mixed method systematic review considers recent literature on the information literacy (IL) skills of first-year undergraduate students. The review uncovers the following themes: faculty and librarians perceive first-year students as lacking IL skills; students have varying perceptions of their IL skills; assessment studies yield conflicting findings on first-year students' IL; communication between high school and college librarians is challenging; and some IL researchers emphasise and leverage first-year students' prior knowledge and experience in IL instruction. These themes emerge from extensive searches in four research databases for scholarly and professional articles written in English within the past ten years. With …

Radio Frequency Identification in short RFID belongs to technology referred to as Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC). The RFID tag operates at 13.56 MHz, and the tag contains a microchip and an antenna. RFID readers can read multiple RFID tags instantaneously at near-proximity through radio wave. RFID helps to save time with maximum accuracy in the circulation counter. Stock verification through RFID system can be done efficiently and accurately, with the help of RFID handheld reader. Teaching An Introduction To Archives Course To Undergraduates: A New Experience For The Archivist And The Students, Julia Stringfellow

This article explores a new Introduction to Archives class taught to undergraduates through a Library and Information Science Minor Program offered by the James E. Brooks Library at Central Washington University (CWU). The course is taught by the University Archivist. The challenges of recruiting students, promotion of the course, and teaching an upper level course to undergraduates from different disciplines is described, as well as the benefits of offering this type of course at the undergraduate level. A review of the literature on the benefits of educating undergraduates on archives and archival research is also included.

Application Of Bradford's Law Of Scattering And Obsolescence In The Literature Of Chemistry: A Study Based On Doctoral Theses, Mithu Anjali Gayan, Sanjay Kumar Singh

The proposed study tries to investigate citation pattern of Chemistry theses submitted to Central library Tripura University. The study considered only those theses submitted to Shodhganga, the Indian ETD initiative. Hence data were collected from 20 theses constituting 6214 citations during 2007 to 2016. Bardford’s law is used to find out the core journals in the field of Chemistry. The rank list of journals showed “Phytochemistry” is the most cited journal. The dataset of the study did not follow the Bradford’s law. However, the dataset follow the Leimkuhler’s model. Half life of Chemistry journals is found to be 12.6 years. …

The present study attempts to emphasize quantitatively the development of environmental science literature in terms of publication output as per Scopus database for thirty years (1989-2018). The focus of this paper is to analysis the literature published by the researchers of the University of Calcutta during the period under study. Total 1093 records have been retrieved for this study. An exponential growth rate has been identified. Authorship trend was towards multi-authored papers. Most prolific authors and most productive journals have been traced. Research productivity of Tripura which is one of the North East Indian states is not measured from a point of view of Scientometrics until now. It’s an untouched area of research. An attempt has been made in this study to understand and evaluate research productivity indexed in Web of Science database of selected disciplines from Tripura University as it is the only central university in the state. Constructing History: A Student-Created Public History Exhibit Using Omeka, Colleen Hoelscher

Library Faculty Research

This case study examines the final project assigned to an upper-level history elective course, “Public History, Memory, and Interpretation.” Students used Omeka, an open-source web publishing platform, to create a digital exhibit using archival materials. Students were responsible for all aspects of curating the exhibit, including selecting materials, creating metadata for digital objects, writing the didactic text, and creating the final website.

As libraries support OER across an institution, that support looks different in each discipline. In teaching future educators, building early awareness of Open Education Resources (OER) for preservice teachers creates a foundation for future growth. In a higher ed institution's College of Education, librarians and instructional designers interact with both faculty educators and students that are completing a degree to become PK-12 educators. Libraries can help build OER awareness through in-class instruction, outreach pop-up events, and online resource guides. FIMS Publications

Mackenzie Johnson and Carlie Forsythe’s article on disability and accessibility language in subject headings and social tagging stresses the importance of involving subject experts in the creation of subject headings, and of getting the headings right to allow effective information retrieval. The authors also assess the ‘third way’, of semi-structured, moderated social tagging systems, that lies between fully controlled vocabularies and free social tagging.
