The idea of the roving librarian on a college campus is not new. This mobile information service allows students, faculty, staff, and community library users access to personalized information service in a variety of areas and promotes library service. A roving librarian project gives librarians the time to focus on serving patrons as individuals rather than on the building as the primary resource. In his vision for the ”New Museum,” John Cotton Dana advocated placing art close to books and journals, offering arts related programs, and developing an art collection to enhance visual learning. Dana Library, located on the Newark Campus of Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey, has succeeded in implementing these principles through its multifaceted arts program. Rotating fine arts and pedagogical exhibits along with a permanent art collection overrides the language and cultural differences of a diverse student body and the surrounding community. How To Get More “Product” While Doing Less “Process”, Janet Hauck

Mark Greene and Dennis Meissner’s landmark “More Product, Less Process” method (MPLP) applies the least number of necessary processing steps when readying an unprocessed collection for use by researchers. If the number of steps for arrangement, preservation, and description are reduced, the application will naturally reduce the amount of processing time. Using their "middle way" of ensuring that at least half of the processing steps were done “adequately” rather than traditionally, Whitworth Archives was able to process a significant number of collections for preservation and use.

Text analysis is a rapidly growing endeavor within the digital world. The development of effective tools will accelerate progress in this area and, simultaneously, unveil aspects of selected materials that may never have been previously studied.

This article introduces TokenX, a text visualization and analysis tool that will expedite such examinations. The use that may be derived from its deployment is demonstrated through the creation and assessment of the two lexicon corpora of American Indian treaties made with the federal government (N = 368), and of those documents formed during the earlier British occupation (N = 7). Abstract: When deciding where to publish their research results, faculty take into consideration factors such as the prestige and readership of journals. The weight a journal article will carry is particularly a concern for pre-tenured faculty members. Previous research has indicated that some faculty members may have some concerns about publishing in Open Access journals because of a perceived lack of rigor and reputation of Open Access titles. Subject specialist librarians play a role in providing resources and services to distance students. The authors surveyed subject librarians and distance librarians, examining how and to what extent subject librarians provide service to distance learners.

The Guidelines for Distance Learning Library Services (Association of College and Research Libraries [ACRL], 2004) state that it is the responsibility of the originating post-secondary institution to meet the teaching, learning, and research needs of distance students and distance faculty. This presentation concentrates on the physical ways a library, specifically in this case the Architecture Studies Library at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, can create experiences which enhance interactions — interaction between patron and materials, between patron and staff, and among patrons.

Historically, coming out as a lesbian and then forming an identity of a "lesbian of color" includes seeking out like voices and stories. Librarians who hold an understanding of the lesbian of color coming out process as well as the fluidity of language in Queer Studies will be better equipped to service lesbian of color patrons. In 2004, Ames Library staff and librarians collaborated to create a Strategic Plan that would guide efforts to improve existing services and develop new ones. Part of the plan called for re-visioning media services to be more collaborative with faculty and information technology staff. This presentation will discuss how the transition from media center to digital center began and how it has impacted services, staffing, technology and relationships in and outside the library.

Historically archives and museums have sought out collections to keep in their institution. Many members of the community are not ready to donate their cherished family heirlooms to a museum or archive. The East Texas Research Center (ETRC) at Ralph W. Steen Library views collecting material in a different light. They are helping to preserve and disseminate Texas cultural heritage through the promotion of preservation of Community Collections. ETRC temporarily borrows material from the community or members of the community bring their historic material to be digitized and added to the TIDES database.

TUlib is TU Delft’s new online information literacy website. Its main features are a tag cloud search to allow easy navigation through the website, a modular design, interactive tutorials and the use of social bookmarking.
