Much has been written about Gen X, Y and Google Generation students in the higher education sector. Student-centred approaches, new pedagogies, a focus on quality management, information and learning commons initiatives all evidence greater attention to the generational needs of the Google Generation. New technologies and applications have also been harnessed to meet students in their ‘own space’.

Traditional library systems are being enhanced to include Web 2.0 functionality. Universities and their Libraries are establishing a presence in social network sites (eg Facebook, YouTube).

The Anchor: 2008

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

This research examined the influence of the management variable of organizing on availability of information sources in the four Federal University Libraries in the south-south zone of Nigeria. The sample consisted of all academic librarians in the university libraries under study. One null hypothesis was formulated and tested. The instrument used to collect data for this study was a validated questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using percentages, chi-square, and contingency correlation co-efficient. A study of the effect of some personal characteristics on the use of information sources by social science researchers was conducted at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Forty lecturers were surveyed using a questionnaire. Three hypotheses were evaluated through the analysis of variance and F-statistic. Multiple comparison of item means as well as group means was conducted using Scheffé's test. The results show that position and education are good predictors of information use while professional experience has little power in explaining variations in information source use. This paper investigates books borrowed by final-year students of computer science and engineering at Velagapudi Ramakrishan Siddhartha Engineering College Library during 2004–05. The analysis shows the number of books used, authorship patterns, age of collection, country-wide distribution of books used, type of publisher, ranked list of publishers, and ranked list of most frequently-used titles. Conclusions are derived from each point of analysis.

A member of the USF faculty since 1980, Raymond O. Arsenault specializes in the social, political, and environmental history and historiography of the American South, though his teaching and research interests cover nearly all areas of American history, culture, and civilization. He serves as the John Hope Franklin Professor of Southern History. In the summer of 1998, Arsenault donated some of his research files and miscellaneous materials to the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library. In 2001, 2004, and 2008, he sent additional materials for preservation as part of this collection. This guide includes accessions through the spring of 2008.

These might be repositories of born digital research outputs, e-reserves collections or online libraries of material digitised to provide open access to significant texts. Whatever the content of the material, the structured data of full text resources can be exploited to enhance research discovery. Data is only as interoperable as the scientists who are willing to meet data standards and share their work with others. The Million Book Project was begun in 2003 with the vision of creating a free-to-read, universally accessible, million-book digital resource by 2007 to provide a test bed for developing digital library tools and software. By spring 2007 1.4 million titles were digitized.

The project stemmed from a collaboration of the university library and the school of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University. From the project’s inception partners included libraries, institutions of higher education and research organizations in China, India and the U.S., essentially computer scientists and librarians.
