The paper examined the factors that affect paraprofessional staff motivation and performance in academic libraries. It underlines the importance of well-motivated staff in ensuring a continuously maximized performance. The literature review comprises relevant papers which discuss how motivation is used to modify behavior of staff to improve performance. It explores Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and its application to the category of staff under study. Training and development of paraprofessional staff were some of the benefits highlighted.

Specific objectives include examining the effect of communication on reference services, discovering the duties of reference librarians, determining the impact of interpersonal communication on reference services, and identifying barriers to effective communication. Over thirty years of legislation since the Copyright Revision Act of 1976 has redefined how academic library professionals view their responsibilities regarding copyright oversight of their print and digital collections, as well as how they have disseminated intellectual property information to their constituencies. This article presents a qualitative evaluation of how copyright information is disseminated on twenty ARL websites—including how sampled sites communicate copyright leadership roles on campus and webpage "best examples". Database searching practice in central university libraries in India was the focus of this study. Eight central university libraries were selected on the basis of their bandwidth use ranking and grouping. Seven universities have been member of University Grants Commission-Infonet Consortia. Databases are available in seven of the eight university libraries are: ACS, AIP, APS, Annual Review, BWP, CUP, IOP, ISID, JCCC, JSTOR, OUP, RSC, SIAM, Springerlink, and Taylor & Francis. This study explores student preferences to library website vocabulary and compares the data with what librarians report on their library's website. Two questionnaires were distributed in the fall of 2009 to students (N=300) and librarians (N=527). Students were asked to identify the terms they prefer from a larger list of library website vocabulary. Librarians were asked to report the terms that were used on their library's website. Twenty-seven terms were selected for both the student and librarian questionnaires. The 27 terms were culled from library literature, library instruction classes, and reference desk interactions. This paper examines the use of the Internet by the members of Social Science Faculty of Annamalai University. The results indicate that the use of Internet services by the faculty members is associated with an increase in the number of research papers and with improvement in the quality of research and teaching.

Demographic And Socio- Economic Attributes As Determinants Of Information And Communication Technology Use For Scholarly Communication In Nigerian Universities, Alice M. Okore

This paper seeks to determine the influence demographic / socio-economic attributes ( rank, years of experience and gender) have on information and communication technology use for scholarly communication. One research question and two hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted ex-post facto research design and utilized a questionnaire to generate data. Data was analyzed using mean, chi-square and analysis of variance. Findings revealed, among others, a positive relationship between years of experience and level of ICT use (P=.03 < 0.05). Rank and gender had no significant influence on ICT use for scholarly communication. The paper recommends training and retraining of senior academics in the use of ICT so as to make them compete favourably with the middle and junior academics. Further investigation should be carried out to find other factors that are responsible for rank not having any significant influence on ICT use for scholarly communication. Gender should not constitute any impediment to appointment of female academics to leadership positions that are technologically biased.

Libraries library play an important role for students in their academic programme, Distance Learning students in University of Ibadan were studied to investigate their library habits and factors affecting use of libraries. Purposive sampling technique was adopted for this study to select 100 library registered distance learners from Faculties of Education and Social Sciences. The study examined citation analysis of authors and articles characterization in the Technology and Development: a Journal of scientific and technological research, Federal University of Technology Yola. It focused on number of articles in each volume, references cited, levels of authors’ collaborations, subjects covered, authors’ institutional affiliations and geographical location of the authors. The study revealed that a total of 96 articles were published in the five volumes (1991-1995), a total of 1421 references were cited from different sources of information.
