Application of the right time and amount of fertilizer N is challenging in rice fertilization because crop N supply is highly variable in the field. Research plots were established at four research plot fields and one commercial field in Arkansas. Independent variables included six nitrogen (N) application rates (0, 67, 101, 134.5, 168, and 202 kg N ha-1), multiple rice cultivars, and five locations. The response variable was 24 vegetative indices values using high spatio-temporal multispectral and thermal imagery obtained from an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The purpose of this study is to investigate the link between personality, risk perception, and travel behavior among French travelers. An online survey was conducted using a sample of 422 responses to examine individual variations in risk perception during a health crisis and their influence on travel behavior. The increasing complexity of the migration pathways of health and care workers is a critical consideration in the reporting requirements of international agreements designed to address their impacts. There are inherent challenges across these different agreements including reporting functions that are misaligned across different data collection tools, variable capacity of country respondents, and a lack of transparency or accountability in the reporting process. This study evaluates the ability of a random forest classifier to identify tropical cyclone (TC) intensification or weakening prior to landfall over the western region of the Southwest Pacific Ocean (SWPO) basin. For both Australia mainland and SWPO island cases, when a TC first crosses land after spending ≥24 h over the ocean, the closest hour prior to the intersection is considered as the landfall hour. If the maximum wind speed (Vmax) at the landfall hour increased or remained the same from the 24-h mark prior to landfall, the TC is labeled as intensifying and if the Vmax at the …

Accurate and timely land cover products are critical inputs for landscape planning, and provide key information for biodiversity conservation and food security. However, poor mapping quality and low resolution are considerable issues in existing land cover maps over the African savanna, where land use is complex and changing rapidly, and necessary ground-truth data are sparse and hard to obtain. Visible disruptions of appropriate food distribution for end consumers during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic prompted calls for an urgent, renewed look at how the U.S. agri-food system is impacted by and responds to pandemics, natural disasters, and human-made crises. Previous studies suggest the COVID-19 pandemic yielded uneven impacts across agri-food supply chain segments and regions. For a rigorously comparable assessment of the impact of COVID-19 on agri-food businesses, a survey was administered from February to April 2021 to five segments of the agri-food supply chain in three study regions (California, Florida, and the two-state region of Minnesota-Wisconsin). This report is a summary of Montana residents' attitudes towards tourism within the state. Since 1992, ITRR has asked residents questions specific to their attitudes towards tourism. This study was conducted to continue tracking the perception of the tourism industry in Montana, as well as expanding the original survey to include topics such as the perceived economic benefit tourism provides to local communities, crowding at the local community level, as well as questions focused on amenities to support tourism, and disaster preparedness.

This summary report highlights select findings from the nonresident 2021-2022 Montana Travel Experience Survey. Nonresident travelers who were interviewed by a surveyor in the state were given this survey along with the Nonresident Travel Survey after completing an in-person “Front End” survey at a gas station, rest area, or airport. Through June, 2022, 1,327 surveys were collected. Questions included topics related to visitors’ use of public lands, trip planning, and questions for first time and repeat visitors.

Virtual simulations of future extreme weather events may prove an effective vehicle for climate change risk communication. To test this, we created a 3D virtual simulation of a future tropical cyclone amplified by climate change. Using an experimental framework, we isolated the effect of our simulation on risk perceptions and individual mitigation behaviour for a representative sample (n = 1507) of the general public in Hong Kong. We find that exposure to our simulation is systematically associated with a relatively small decrease in risk perceptions and individual mitigation behaviour. No longer locked in a dominant-subordinate configuration, the interaction between both institutions intensified in areas where they intersect. Drawing upon the theory of Strategic Action Field (SAF), this study attempts to capture the dynamics along the newly-established trajectory. This study aims to generate a spatially complete planetary boundary layer height (PBLH) product over the contiguous United States (CONUS). An eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGB) regression model was developed using selected meteorological and geographical data fields as explanatory variables to fit the PBLH values derived from Aircraft Meteorological DAta Relay (AMDAR) reports hourly profiles at 13:00-14:00 LST (local solar time) during 2005-2019. A preprocessing step was implemented to exclude AMDAR data points that were unexplainable by the predictors, mostly under stable conditions. Multiple statistical algorithms have been used for species distribution modelling (SDM). Due to shortcomings in species occurrence datasets, presence-only methods (such as MaxEnt) have become increasingly widely used. However, sampling bias remains a challenging issue, particularly for density-based approaches. The Isolation Forest (iForest) algorithm is a presence-only method less sensitive to sampling patterns and over-fitting because it fits the model by describing the unsuitable instead of suitable conditions. Here, we present the itsdm package for species distribution modelling with iForest, which provides a workflow wrapper for the algorithms in iForest family and convenient tools for model diagnostic and post-modelling analysis. …
