In recent years, there has been increased concern about the level of alcohol abuse by Irish teenagers. Countless studies have shown that underage drinking is now becoming an epidemic. Up to 100 million young people around the globe are alcohol dependent and another 400 million drink to excess. Research has shown that early onset of alcohol use can lead to alcohol dependency, violence, absenteeism, crime and subsequent health problems. It is estimated that alcohol related problems cost the Irish economy €2.65 billion in 2003. Unfortunately, this alcohol problem is not going to vanish or disappear. The thesis explores the process of developing and managing brands. Particular emphasis is placed on how small enterprises gain recognition and acceptance for brands, the obstacles they encounter and how they surmount these obstacles.

In a review of the literature, brand management strategies and the value of brand loyalty to a business were discussed. Brand equity and measurement and measures of brand equity were also reviewed.

One very controversial topic within advertising is subliminal advertising. There are many studies about the subject of subliminal messages and their effects (Trappey, 1996). This type of advertising uses subliminal stimuli, messages presented so fast or so softly or so masked by other messages that one is not aware of "seeing" or "hearing" them (Hawkins, Best, Coney, 1995). When marketers put subliminal messages in advertising, they create subliminal advertising. One of the primary attributes of a free market economy is the uninhibited flow of truthful information regarding the goods and services available in the marketplace (Azcuenaga 1995). This free flow of information, in the form of advertising, enhances market performance by informing consumers and enabling firms to compete equitably based on the attributes of their offerings. Studies reveal that, for the vast majority of marketing managers, the regulatory environment serves as the primary influence in advertising strategy development and decision-making (Davis 1994). The introduction of the euro currency is a major social, cultural, and economic event in the history of Europe. A massive public information marketing campaign has failed to encourage widespread acceptance of the new currency. This paper analyzes the reasons for this failure, and suggests strategies for future campaigns.

Successful Branding is a good amalgam of real-life Indian case studies which highlight the role of branding in successful marketing. While most of the cases revolve around fast moving consumer brands, given the sensitivity of this category to market perceptions, houdhury does provide interesting cases of brand creation in low interest category commodity products such as cement(Ambuja Cement) and intermediate products such as denim (Arvind Mills).
