English is not only used by people from ENL (English as a Native Lan- guage) countries to communicate with people from ESL (English as a Second Lan- guage) and EFL (English as a Foreign Language) countries or vice versa, but it even functions as a lingua franca among non-native speakers. As a result, English varie- ties or Englishes emerged. This paper proposes an argument that the coexistence of both standard and varieties of English is equally important.

Every type of verb has a specific distribution in the context of plot in the written Indonesian tale narrative discourse (WNDBI). That specific distribution im- plies specific verb functions and meanings in the context of plot in WNDBI. There are three types of verbs dominant in the use of verbs in the WNDBI, namely materi- al-process verbs, relational-process verbs, and mental-process verbs. Types of claus- es, internal pattern of clauses embedded by certain types of verbs, and characteristics of participants have effects on the functions and meanings of the clauses in WNDBI. The written Indonesian tale narrative discourse possesses a …

When looking to increase communication and collaboration in our library, we created a team of physical sciences/engineering librarians, library assistants, and administrators. Together, we work on setting priorities, sharing expertise, and developing skills. In three years, we have moved from traditional subject-based instruction responsibilities to working as a team to prepare and co-instruct classes. By sharing with you the benefits of our team-based system to our librarians, library system, and users, we want to inspire you to think about how to implement a similar system in your own library.

A Model Of Voluntary Turnover For New Hires In State Government, Reese M. Thompson
A Model Of Voluntary Turnover For New Hires In State Government, Reese M. Thompson
Undergraduate Theses and Capstone Projects
Why do new hires have a tendency to voluntarily quit their jobs more than tenured employees? This question has important implications for organizations and human resource managers who have to develop and implement human resource management (HRM) strategies that are designed to recruit and retain the best employees. An underlying theme of turnover research is that voluntary turnover is a negative outcome for an organization. While it has been suggested and established that job tenure affects turnover (Lewis, 1991; Cohen, 1993), very little research has been undertaken regarding the specific factors that drive retention of new hires (Shipp, Payne, & …

Algebra For All?, Nathan C. Jensen, Gary W. Ritter
Algebra For All?, Nathan C. Jensen, Gary W. Ritter
Policy Briefs
In Arkansas, students graduate from high school at a relatively high rate – 72% versus the national rate of 69%. However, according to the ACT, only 35% of Arkansas graduates are ready for college-level work (based on Arkansas’ College Readiness Benchmark Scores). Our state's rate of completion from college also ranks below the national average (See Table 3.5 in OEP’s report card here). There is a strong correlation between the successful completion of an algebra course and readiness for college-level work. Because of this, there has been a great deal of interest recently in the question of whether educators in …

Langkah Kedepan Mempercepat Penurunan Kematian Ibu Di Indonesia, Anhari Achadi
Langkah Kedepan Mempercepat Penurunan Kematian Ibu Di Indonesia, Anhari Achadi
Kesmas

Faktor - Faktor Yang Berhubungan Dengan Kepatuhan Petugas Terhadap Sop Imunisasi Pada Penanganan Vaksin Campak, Dini Yulianti, Anhari Achadi
Kesmas
The Relationship Between Perceived Social Status, Stress, And Health In Mexican American Immigrants, Roland Marcus Green
The Relationship Between Perceived Social Status, Stress, And Health In Mexican American Immigrants, Roland Marcus Green
Theses and Dissertations
The current paper examines the relationship between social support, perceived social status and health in the context of the Hispanic Paradox. It was hypothesized that social support will predict perceived social status which, in turn, is an important factor in predicting physical health among Mexican immigrants. The current paper also hypothesized that stress mediates the relationship between perceived social status and health. Three hundred and twenty male and female Mexican immigrants (ages 18-79) completed questionnaires, wore ambulatory blood pressure monitors for 24 hours, and submitted blood samples. Results supported some, but not most hypotheses. Greater social support was related to …
