This paper attempts to reduce the distance between intellectual frameworks that inform different fields of social work practice by exploring the relationships between intrapsychic mechanisms, family dynamics, small group processes and such society wide phenomena as public denigration, scapegoating, and the systematic oppression of politically targeted population subgroups. Clinical theories are used to explore disturbing social trends such as the redistribution of wealth while cutting services to the needy, the growth of prisons and disproportionate numbers of incarcerated people of color, societal retreat from social obligation and commitment and divisive political rhetoric. The excavations at Ḥorbat Rosh Zayit were conducted following the survey of the Lower Galilee, as part of the Lower Galilee regional project, by Zvi Gal. The site’s full significance was only revealed in the excavations, which have contributed much data that enable the presentation of an historical-geographical synthesis. The rural Iron Age village of Stratum III was abandoned and a fort was established in Strat um II, at the highest spot on the hill overlooking the ‘Akko Plain. The early Byzantine period, especially the fourth–seventh centuries CE, saw the prosperity of a Christian monastic movement in South Sinai. This community was centered around Jebel Musa, which Christian tradition identified with Mt. Sinai. This study’s main aims are to present the relevant archaeological material, based on fieldwork carried out in the late 1970s, to publish all the sites defined as monastic settlements in South Sinai, and to provide a general picture of Sinai monasticism based on the archaeological data and historical sources. In February 1994, Gettysburg College launched an ambitious experiment that joined computing and the library into a new organization known as Information Resources. Gettysburg College, one of the first liberal arts colleges to undertake such a merger, sought, along with only a handful of other institutions, a level of integration so complete that all vestiges of the traditional library disappeared. In a series of experiments, we delimited a region within the vertical axis of space in which eye height (EH) information is used maximally to scale object heights, referred to as the "zone of eye height utility" (Wraga, 1999b Journal of Experimental Psychology, Human Perception and Performance 25 518-530). To test the lower limit of the zone, linear perspective (on the floor) was varied via introduction of a false perspective (FP) gradient while all sources of EH information except linear perspective were held constant. These studies examined the role of spatial encoding in inducing perception-action dissociations in visual illusions. Participants were shown a large-scale Müller-Lyer configuration with hoops as its tails. In Experiment 1, participants either made verbal estimates of the extent of the Müller-Lyer shaft (verbal task) or walked the extent without vision, in an offset path (blind-walking task). For both tasks, participants stood a small distance away from the configuration, to elicit object-relative encoding of the shaft with respect to its hoops. Updating Displays After Imagined Object And Viewer Rotations, Maryjane Wraga, Sarah H. Creem, Dennis R. Proffitt

Six experiments compared spatial updating of an array after imagined rotations of the array versus viewer. Participants responded faster and made fewer errors in viewer tasks than in array tasks while positioned outside (Experiment 1) or inside (Experiment 2) the array. An apparent array advantage for updating objects rather than locations was attributable to participants imagining translations of single objects rather than rotations of the array (Experiment 3). Superior viewer performance persisted when the array was reduced to 1 object (Experiment 4); however, an object with a familiar configuration improved object performance somewhat (Experiment 5). The purpose of this study was to evaluate an after-school

program that is designed to meet the specific needs of African Americanyouth. The program is called the Academic Cultural Enrichment (ACE) Mentorship Program and is sponsored, in part, by the Champaign ParkDistrict. The purpose of the program is to provide students with the competencies and skills needed to be involved, resilient, and successful.

The program seeks to foster positive Black identities in the participants, and to develop strong math, reading, oratorical, and analytical thinking skills. The program has a strong African cultural component, as well as academic and recreation components. …
