In Orange County, Florida, community-based programs provide resources for at-risk males who are impacted by social determinant challenges. This study focused on the client intake assessment process of Agency OCF to identify gaps that would benefit from enhanced assessment processes and early intervention efforts creating greater opportunity for program placement of at-risk males in this distressed community. Community-based participatory research served as the interpretive lens and generic qualitative inquiry provided the methodological approach to assess the client intake processes. Human trafficking is a global crisis that impacts individuals across all cultures and communities. The purpose of this single intrinsic case study was to explore the interventions that human service professional directors use to prevent human trafficking in Missouri. Trauma-informed approach was used as the conceptual framework. Participants included seven human service managers and program directors who have successfully implemented interventions to prevent human trafficking. Data were collected from one-on-one, semi-structured interviews with six participants. The data were analyzed using Yin’s five components of data analysis. Vote-by-mail (VBM) ballots that were returned inaccurately during past general elections contributed to votes that were not counted in Florida. Since 2016, more than 600,000 mail ballots were not counted in the state; 73,000 were not counted in Broward County, Florida. The problem was that VBM ballots were returned as incomplete due to missing or mismatched signatures and not counted during the election processes. However, it was not known if this issue impacted voter perceptions of VBM voting. The public choice theory was the theoretical framework. Veterans who are returning to civilian life often experience barriers to seeking mental healthcare. The purpose of this quantitative, non-experimental, correlational study was to determine the extent to which race, PTSD symptoms, and attitudes toward help-seeking (psychological openness, help-seeking propensity, indifference to stigma) predict help-seeking intentions and help-seeking behavior among military veterans. Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior was the basis for this study. A convenience sample of 105 veterans (53 African Americans, 52 Caucasians) were recruited via Alchemer. Standard multiple regression analysis showed that help-seeking propensity was a significant predictor of help-seeking intentions, with higher scores on help-seeking propensity predicting …

There is limited research from supervisors' perspectives on the use of trauma-informed supervision practices when supervising substance use counselors. The purpose of this grounded theory study was to explore the process of licensed professional counselors who are clinical substance use supervisors using trauma-informed supervision. The research question was: How do substance use counselor supervisors engage in trauma-informed supervision? The purpose of the qualitative phenomenological research was to investigate the experiences of young adults raised by one caregiver and how the lack of fathers in the household impacted their decision-making processes concerning engaging in criminal behaviors. The following inquiry guided the research: What are the effects of fatherlessness on decision-making in young adults, and how is it related to criminal behavior? The purpose of this qualitative case study was to better understand the holistic and cultural needs in jails to better support incarcerated parents in a rural Western region and to compare the needs to existing programs. The theoretical framework for this study was a program model called the Family Strengthening Project. Data were collected in individual telephone interviews with five professionals with experience working with incarcerated parents and their families in a rural jail and community, including human services practitioners and law enforcement officials. Within counseling supervision relationships, supervisor feedback is an important aspect of counselors-in-training (CIT) development to improve CIT counseling competency and confidence in practice. Effective supervision requires CITs to disclose details about their practice, including counseling approaches, interpretations, challenges, and errors. Prior research has indicated CITs withheld information as often as 97% of the time in some cases. The current study aimed to identify if there was a relationship between cross-ethnic racial identity and cognitive empathy for others and whether social and personal identities mediated this effect. Self-categorization theory was used as the theoretical framework. In this study, it was hypothesized that cross-ethnic racial identity significantly predicts empathic accuracy, and that social and personal identities mediate this relationship. Type D personality, characterized by negative affectivity and social inhibition, has been shown to predict the prognosis of patients with heart disease.
