Exploring Culturally Competent Mental Health Outreach To Black Churches, Michele Marie Fry Jan 2021

Exploring Culturally Competent Mental Health Outreach To Black Churches, Michele Marie Fry

Black individuals and communities have held distrust toward mental health services and experience barriers in seeking services. Although the church is a significant support system in the Black community, it can also pose a barrier to congregation members seeking mental health services, as the Black church community has often stigmatized those seeking mental health services as weak. Ways to reach the Black community with trauma-informed, culturally competent, and spiritually sensitive mental health services through establishing connections with Black churches and church leaders were explored in this study. The Relationship Between Cross-Cultural Psychological Capital And Organizational Commitment, Steven Andrew Snell Jan 2021

The Relationship Between Cross-Cultural Psychological Capital And Organizational Commitment, Steven Andrew Snell

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

For many organizations, the cultural demographics of the workforce reflect the growing diversity of the global workforce. Effective intercultural interactions require individuals to have several personal psychological resources, including cross-cultural psychological capital (PsyCap). Without such resources, employees may not have the ability to effectively work with individuals from other cultures, making working in these environments stressful. These stressful situations may negatively impact employee commitment levels, potentially increasing turnover rates. The purpose of this study was to explore the influence that employees’ cross-cultural PsyCap has on their organizational commitment (OC) as indicated by the three-component model of OC. To date, researchers …

Abstract The prevalence of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in children has significantly increased since it was first identified in the 1930s. This increase has been attributed to the changes in the reporting practices within the 5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. To address this increase, many treatments have emerged, including video self-modeling (VSM). VSM has demonstrated efficacy as an intervention in treating a variety of ASD symptoms, ranging from communication deficits to maladaptive behaviors. VSM uses edited video clips that allow a child to watch him or herself successfully performing the targeted skill. To classify VSM as evidence-based …

Applying The Narrative Policy Framework To The Usa Freedom Act Of 2015, Michael Sean Hall Jan 2021

Applying The Narrative Policy Framework To The Usa Freedom Act Of 2015, Michael Sean Hall

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The domestic security dilemma is a recurring problem whereby counterterrorism programs are continuously in a state of flux as demands for increased civil liberties and national security compete, as demonstrated by the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001 and USA FREEDOM Act of 2015. The National Security Agency bulk metadata collection program (NSA Surveillance Program) was created to identify terrorists and prevent terrorist attacks, but the USA FREEDOM Act prohibited the program in 2015. The NSA Surveillance Program's prohibition is problematic because the United States may not obtain the intelligence necessary to prevent a terrorist attack. The purpose of this qualitative …

A Lexical Approach To Collective Personality Using Nongroup Members As Raters, Robert Cameron Black Jan 2021

A Lexical Approach To Collective Personality Using Nongroup Members As Raters, Robert Cameron Black

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The construct of personality exhibits utility in predicting group outcomes. However, quantifying a group personality construct has almost exclusively been accomplished by aggregating individual group member five-factor personality scores to derive the group personality score. This type of operationalizing rests on the assumption that collective personality exists and has a five-factor structure, makes results context specific, and limits cross-comparison of different types of groups. The purpose of this quantitative study was to apply a lexical approach and exploratory factor analysis to explore personality structure of a group at a group level. The research question focused on identifying if a construct …

Policy Expectations And Care-Provider Perceptions For Hospital Emergency Preparedness, Kathleen Joy Hirsch-Lanute

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractMaintaining preparedness for a disaster is a patient and provider safety issue that is often not a priority for hospital planning; however, the inability to implement and evaluate disaster/emergency preparedness programs may render hospitals and the overall healthcare system fragile and dysfunctional amidst such crises. Data were collected using open ended questions and probes with …

While the use of these tools is standard in the acute care setting, limited studies have been conducted regarding their use in the nursing home setting. The purpose of this project was to …
