This paper examines some of the current literature on the experiences of dying and integrates this together with the parameters that may constitute the experiences of a deaf and dying person. Influences from the American culture, processes of dying, developmental issues in learning about death and dying, and the role as teacher that the deaf community provides to deaf people are examined.

Deaf Arkansan Center for Cultivating Employability and Self-Sufficiency (Deaf ACCESS) is a statewide center providing professional services for severely disabled deaf individuals. The center's core objectives are to focus on obstacles preventing successful independent living. Limited academic achievement, poor socialization skills, lack of information regarding everyday life skills, stereotyped vocational planning and interpersonal development are all commonly mentioned problems.

A Psycho-Social Aspects of Deafness course is frequently offered to hearing students in programs focusing on education, counseling, or social work with the deaf. At the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, it is offered to deaf students at the undergraduate level. This article is a description of the development and two-year implementation of a Cooperative Agreement between DeKalb College and the Georgia Sensory Rehabilitation Center. The agreement was initiated by DeKalb College due to the increase in applicants with potential to prepare for development studies. These needs included assessment, Academic upgrading, vocational information, and study skills improvement. During this time, the Georgia Division of Rehabilitation Services established the Georgia Sensory Rehabilitation Center with a mandate to network with existing services. This paper reports the results of Tucson, Arizona’s Community Outreach Program for the Deaf Transition Project for Hearing-Impaired Youth. The project is fully funded through the Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services project, and has as its primary goals:
- To develop a predictable referral system: school to adult services
- To develop specialized transition methods for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
- To develop techniques to train in life management and employment related skills.
- To create system change
This paper will propose a model for transitional planning and recommend system changes which could facilitate such planning and service delivery.
