Order Carnivora, Family Canidae. The genus Canis includes eight species. Approxi- mately 24 New World and eight Old World subspecies of C. lupus are recognized, the number depending on authorities accepted. Every program designed to decrease poverty is based upon assumptions either as to the nature and causes of poverty or what is necessary to help the poor improve their lot (Spilerman and Elish, 1970; Task Force on Economic Growth and Opportunity, 1966; Valentine, 1968). Often these assumptions are only implicit, and supervisors of the program might not even agree with the assumptions if they were stated. Nevertheless, a program would itself make no sense unless certain statements about poverty were true. For example, a program of economic development to increase employment opportunities assumes that, first, much poverty is due to …

Museum Visitor Analysis: The Kampsville Example, Kenneth L. Brott

This paper concerns a small community museum in Kampsville, Illinois. Economic interaction phenomena are examined within the immediate business community for impact derived directly from museum visitors. Increased sales potential available from museum visitor interaction was examined through field observation. Potential impact from this source signals a viable means of educational and economic development appreciated simultaneously in small communities attempting revitalization efforts.

Guidelines and recommendations are included for application in additional research studies of museum/community interaction potential.

A Survey Of Social Service Agency Training Needs For Program Development And Coordination, Jon Jay Garlinghouse

This research study investigated social program development, social program coordination, and related training needs among Kittitas County social service agencies. A survey of 16 social service agency representatives demonstrated need for social program development and social program coordination training. A college-sponsored, community-based training program was recommended.

Our research was guided by an interest in the attitudes of social workers toward their personal work situation, their occupation, its place in the society, and other matters. It seemed likely that in a welfare state, the position of the profession and the attitudes of its practitioners would reflect its key position within the society. If such expectations were borne out, we might be able to make predictions concerning such attitudes among American social workers should the welfare program be greatly expanded.

The Octofoil is the offical publication of the Ninth Infantry Division Association, Inc., an organization formed by the officers and men of the 9th Infantry Division in order to perpetuate the memory of fallen comrades, preserve the esprit de corps of the Division, promote peace and serve as an information bureau about the 9th Infantry Division. The Association is made up of 9th Infantry veterans from WWII and Vietnam, spouses, widows and lineal descendants.

This study examines the Public Welfare Medical Transportation Program with particular focus on ambulance transportation. It addresses the problems Public Welfare has in funding and administrating the program, looks at the components of the larger emergency medical care system and its relationship to Public Welfare, studies who, how, and why this service is being delivered, and makes recommendations for policy revision in respect to the larger emergency medical care system.

This is a study of twenty-six patients aged sixty years and over residing in a nursing care facility in Portland, Oregon in the fall of 1973, which explores the relationship of their morale and selected environmental and social factors.

There are three major aims of the study. The first is to measure variances in morale states as experienced and reported by the respondents. Town squares have many varieties in types of forms and functions. From ancient Greece to the present time, the basic function of the town square has remained the same, to serve as the heart of the city. Kentucky squares, although small, serve that same basic function. Town squares of southcentral Kentucky are similar to the courthouse squares of Virginia county seats. Town squares of southcentral Kentucky, with slightly varying form, are of two major types. The square in small Kentucky towns takes on more significance, than a square in a large city.
