Comparison Of Stirred And Immobilized Cell Reactors For Ethanol Production, Oliver C. Sitton, J. L. Gaddy
Comparison Of Stirred And Immobilized Cell Reactors For Ethanol Production, Oliver C. Sitton, J. L. Gaddy
UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy
Biomass can be converted to sugars by hydrolysis with enzymes or mineral acids. These sugars can be converted into a number of chemical intermediates in biological reactors. Biological reactions are generally slow and selection of the most efficient reactor is important in these applications.
Immobilized cell reactors allow high cell densities and high throughput by attaching microorganisms to a fixed support. This paper compares the rate of production of ethanol from glucose by Saccharomyces Cerevisiae in a packed column and a stirred reactor.
Continuous stirred reactor studies showed a washout rate of .27 hr-1. The optimum rate of …

A Housing Allocation Formula For Nebraska Cities Of The First Class: City Of Bellevue, 1978, Jack Ruff, David R. Dimartino, Jody Josephs
Publications
The Federal government, through its various agencies, has sponsored many different housing programs in recent years. Each. new and revised program requires state and local officials to re-examine the total housing situation within their jurisdictions. Their eligibility for Federal funding is dependent upon their re-examination of the types of housing needs in their areas, the magnitude of each need category, and the data available to document their needs. Therefore, it is desirable (if not necessary) to develop a standardized procedure by which appropriate needs can be identified, analyzed, and balanced among housing types, household types, and areas.
The Piedmont Railroad: A Reflection Of Confederate Railroad Policy, David Maurice Self
The Piedmont Railroad: A Reflection Of Confederate Railroad Policy, David Maurice Self
History Theses & Dissertations
Confederate railroad policies had a disruptive effect on the final outcome of the war for the South. This thesis endeavors to examine the history of the construction of the Piedmont Railroad as it reflected Confederate railroad policy during the American Civil War. The work is devoted specifically to a study of the obstacles confronting the construction of the Piedmont Railroad from its inception to its completion. One finds throughout this period a fluctuating Confederate policy concerning its railroads and no permanent. official agency to coordinate its affairs. The Piedmont Railroad was to be a vital part of the system of …

The minefield consisted of a pattern of Ploughshare fragmentation mines surrounded by three anti-personnel mines. The victim was a sapper, tasked with locating and replacing mines that had been detonated by animals etc. He was using a prodder (approximately 50cm long) to find safe places to stand. His colleagues were about 10m behind him. Having prodded in one particular area, he placed his foot there and stepped on a mine. The victim believed that rainwater had caused the mine to move from its place in the pattern, and that he missed it whilst prodding. No detectors were available at that …

The Transition: An Historical-Materialist Perspective On Social Welfare And Social Work Practice, Thomas Keefe
The Transition: An Historical-Materialist Perspective On Social Welfare And Social Work Practice, Thomas Keefe
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
From an historical-materialist perspective American society is in a transition to a new structural form--a new order. The future of social welfare and social work practice is intimately bound to the nature and outcome of this transition. Moreover, the transition has economic and ideological characteristics that hold important implications for changes in the ways social workers view their clients and conduct their practice. Employing an historicalmaterialist analysis, this article will discuss the nature of the societal transition and its implications for social welfare and social work practice.
The analysis will be prefaced with a synopsis of basic concepts and assumptions …
