The United Nations Environment Programme, Norman Miller Jan 1979

The United Nations Environment Programme, Norman Miller

Dartmouth Scholarship

It was once described as a part of the "quiet side" of the United Nations family, one of those organizations that did good works but rarely made headlines. Times have changed. Today the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, has come into prominence, not because of UN cliches about "spaceship earth," but because a great many ordinary people have come to realize they could be physically harmed by environmental hazards. The common man" in industrial states has begun to worry about the environment in respect to his health and the health of his children. He is asking …

A Needs Assessment Of Older Hispanics In Omaha, Nebraska, David R. Dimartino

Publications

The successful delivery of human services requires rational program planning. This Way To Foster Parenting: A Training Manual For People Who Want To Be Foster Parents - Participant's Manual, Barbara Kendrick, Carol Ertl

Publications

It is a well-known fact that in our society today there are many problems-and these problems often strike first and hardest in the family. Families today often need help, and one form of help is having the children removed temporarily and placed in foster care.

The foster families that care for these displaced children are in actually helping more than the children in their care; they are helping families get back on their feet and reunite if at all possible. Thus, foster parenting requires more than the skills learned as a parent of one's own children; it requires helping families …

Public Awareness Of The Nebraska Regional Poison Control Center, Michale A. Montwill, Matilda S. Mcintire, James J. O'Donnell, Margaret A. Nelson, Murray Frost

A Poison Control Center needs to continually update its impact on the community it serves. At the Nebraska Regional Poison Control Center, a telephone survey was performed to ascertain baseline data for ongoing poison awareness programs. Our data shows that 36.6% of the population would call the PCC in the case of acute poisoning. There is a need to stress that the PCC is not only a center for information but also for treatment at home. Distribution of the PCC phone number to be attached to the phone needs to be increased. Many people obtained the phone number through time …

A Study Of Decision Making: The Case Of Brown And Root, Inc., Mary Blossom Springle

Malawi-Central African Paradox, Norman Miller Jan 1979

Malawi-Central African Paradox, Norman Miller

Dartmouth Scholarship

Malawi is a land of contradictions. At independence in 1964 it was by all standards too small, too isolated, and too poor to be given any hope of prosperity. Yet today the nation bubbles with optimism. Bumper crops for the past two years, brisk trade, an infusion of capital from the West, and the stern "faith, hope, and charity" doctrine preached by the finger-wagging President Hastings Kamazu Banda have put Malawi on the map as a nation that is stable and growing. In contemporary Africa that means membership in a select group.
