An Evaluation Of American Diplomacy At Yalta, James R. Fredenberger

Plan B Papers

To-day the world is divided into two armed camps. The United States and the Soviet Union are the two leaders of these divergent groups. Yet only fifteen years ago these two nations were allied against the Axis powers. An obvious question is what caused this wartime alliance to degenerate into the present conflict. The factors which led to this occurence are numerous. Therefore, it would be impossible to take any individual, nation, or event and say the responsibility is theirs. The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

in this issue. . .

WITH this number, THE MIDWEST QUARTERLY rounds out its second volume and thus completes two years of publication. It seems obvious to the editors at least that this milestone has more significance than the mere issuance of the eighth consecutive number of our quarterly. In a very real sense, this publication has reached a kind of maturity, the basic evidence of which is contained in the table of contents in this issue. From its inception, it has been our aim to offer a broad selection of articles on various subjects of contemporary significance. Throughout our …

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

in this issue. . .

THIS is the political spring of a political year. The "first hundred days" of the Kennedy Administration are about to become history, and there are other activities on the American and the midwestern scenes which are essentially political in nature and/ or origin. The Centennial of Kansas statehood has officially begun, and the Centennial of the American Civil War likewise. More importantly, rank-and-file Americans seem to be taking more interest in political activities and problems than is their usual wont, although this may be only a seasonal thing, what with state legislatures in session as …

Albert B. Fall In New Mexico, 1888-1912, Maralyn Budke Mar 1961

Albert B. Fall In New Mexico, 1888-1912, Maralyn Budke

Political Science ETDs

The concern here is with a less well known (but perhaps in the long run as significant) part of his life. Relatively little has been written about Fall's early career as a successful and important public figure. Almost every textbook of American history includes a short paragraph recounting his failures. Few even mention his achievements. Big victories were won against a background of great adventure in the Western tradition. It was a time of playing for high stakes and A.B. Fall was a great gambler. In fairness, it seems that that story should also be told.
