The Radical Right And Its Influence Upon American Foreign Policy, David Stringer Roberts Jul 1963

The Radical Right And Its Influence Upon American Foreign Policy, David Stringer Roberts

Masters Theses

Introduction

This thesis is an exposition into the American radical right. It is the author's contention that expository writing has a role to play in thesis-writing, especially dealing with broad political problems such as the radical right movement.

The major "thesis" of this paper is that the radical right has an inordinate influence on the formulation of American foreign policy, out of all proportion to its actual numbers. All efforts will be made to prove this proposition.

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

in this issue. . .

BY MIDWINTER it had become obvious to the editors that it would be possible to devote our summer issue to American Literature exclusively. Before the winds of March had blown in April's rain, the editors had decided to produce a special summer literary number; this was made possible by our possession of a good supply of interesting, important, and varied analyses of several aspects of American artistic and literary life. This issue, therefore, begins with an incisive essay on the generally unhappy position of the writer in American culture, and succeeding articles treat not only …

The Role Of The Contested Delegations At The 1952 Republican Convention, Raymond C. Cowan Jr. May 1963

The Role Of The Contested Delegations At The 1952 Republican Convention, Raymond C. Cowan Jr.

Political Science ETDs

The 1952 contest between Taft and Eisenhower presumed the victor would have a strong voice in determining the policies and politics of the party. Though neither could establish the direction of the party alone, the outcome of the contest would determine the course of the Republican party.

The delegates to the 1952 Republication convention were in four categories: (1) those committed to Eisenhower, (2) those committed to Taft, (3) those committed to neither candidate, (4) those whose credentials were contested.

The study here is concerned with the last category of delegates--especially the contested Southern delegates. The basic question is to …

The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

in this issue. . .

OBVIOUSLY, controversy is characteristic of most discussions of questions of contemporary importance. While the editors of THE MIDWEST QUARTERLY deliberately selected controversial articles for inclusion in our last (January) issue, it was not our aim or objective to make this issue controversial to the same degree. Examination of our table of contents, however, and closer examination of the six discussions therein, will undoubtedly disclose and generate as much controversy as our last issue. It may be that questions arising from Dr. Samuel Johnson's visit to Scotland (just before the American Revolution broke out) will not …

Early Huguenot Political Theory As Represented By Francis Hotman And Franco-Gallia (1524 -1590), Marcelle Woodruff Stumpff Mar 1963

Early Huguenot Political Theory As Represented By Francis Hotman And Franco-Gallia (1524 -1590), Marcelle Woodruff Stumpff

Political Science ETDs

The main purpose of this thesis is to study early Huguenot political theory as represented by Francis Hotman's chief work, Franco-Gallia. It was a book written toward a specific and during a crucial time for France; yet its message is hardly limited to its time. Franco-Gallia is not one of the most important books ever written on political theory; it is, however, one of the most important books of the early Huguenot era, if not the most important one. And since this paper is a study of early Huguenot thought, its focus is on Franco-Gallia.
