A Study Of The Cuban Community In Richmond, Mary E. Tyler
A Study Of The Cuban Community In Richmond, Mary E. Tyler
Master's Theses
For Cubans there has been a long, historic exile path to the United States. The Spanish historian Justo Zaragoza noted that 100,000 persons fled the island in 1869,2 following the start of the Ten Years' War agitating for independence from Spain. Again in 1895 when the War for Independence broke out, Cuban colonies were founded in Southern Florida, Tampa, and other U.S. cities.
Political activity was very much a part of the exile groups from the time that the great Cuban hero, Jose Marti plotted his revolution in a house in Tampa.3 Revolutionary activity was carried on among …

The Politics Of Urban Renewal In Outstate Michigan, Lewis E. Soli
Masters Theses
The Challenge of the 60's
The city of the 1960's us awakening to its present condition and is attempting to take positive steps towards the alleviation or the solution of a multitude of problems. Typical of the problems is the erosion of the local tax base, a loss of population, an increase in crime and delinquency, and persistent demands by fringe area residents for extensions of municipal services. A problem that affects cities of all sizes is that of blight, deterioration, and decay. One method of dealing with this problem is through local participation in the Federally-sponsored urban renewal program. …

PRECEDENTS for a summer literary number are easy to find; our last three July issues come instantly to mind, but the tradition is far older than 1963. Summer used to be a leisurely season, replete with long lazy afternoons, lawns sloping gently down to water, frosted pitchers of lemonade, and books-from Hervey Allen to Stefan Zweig, Dreiser, Faulkner, Fielding, Fitzgerald, Hardy, Hawthorne, Hemingway, Howells, Sterne, Trollope, Turgenev, Zola, and a hundred others. Summer reading was an institution; there was time for it and its deepest enjoyment. The institution was a good one, memorable and permanently …

The Redevelopment Of Russell County, Virginia : A Survey Of The Causes Of Poverty In An Appalachian County And Efforts To Correct Them, Daniel Alvin Dye
Master's Theses
The purpose of this paper is to describe the economic, social, and political conditions in Russell County that have caused it to be classified as a depressed area by the De partments of Commerce and Labor. For historical and comparative purposes, certain aspects of the county's development from 1900 to 1950 have been included; however, they have been held to …

Order And Organization As Problems Of Developing Political Systems: Ghana And Nigeria, Hugh Michael Stevenson
Masters Theses
Introduction
The study of political development has come to dominate that branch of the discipline of political science concerned with comparative politics. There is, however, a terminological and methodological confusion in the literature that is in need of clarification.

Tension And Rationality Of Decision Making In The International System., Preston G. Mccrossen
Political Science ETDs
"Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed." This first sentence in the Preamble of the Constitution of the United Nation's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is a concise statement of the motivation of the psychologists now involved in the study of international relations. The end of World War Two and the beginning of the nuclear arms race held special significance for these scholars. Other disciplines had shown their inability to adequately understand the nature of the international system, while at the same time demonstrating …

The Ideology Of The John Birch Society, Max P. Peterson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This study is designed to examine and evaluate the basic beliefs and actions of the John Birch Society. It is not intended to determine the proper location for the Society on the American political spectrum, but to merely represent an opinion. An objective approach is intended, but the conclusion expresses a point of view, which, I hope, is clear and consistent enough to allow those who may disagree to take issue.
There is a great deal of room for disagreement on a subject such as this. The sources used in determining the content of this presentation are listed in the …
