Transforming Academic Librarianship Through Ai Reskilling: Insights From The Gpt-4 Exploration Program, Leo S. Lo
University Libraries & Learning Sciences Faculty and Staff Publications
The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic librarianship necessitates a corresponding evolution in librarians' competencies. This case study examines the GPT-4 Exploration Program at the University of New Mexico's College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences, which aimed to foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation by providing hands-on experience with advanced AI technology. Drawing on Malcolm Knowles' Adult Learning Principles, the program's structure and implementation are analyzed, highlighting the diverse range of projects undertaken by participants. The study reveals that effective AI reskilling involves cultivating a culture of continuous learning, adaptability, and collaborative exploration, anchored in a …

Musselman Library approved its second Inclusion Action Plan in December 2020, for implementation in 2021–2024. To stay abreast of changing needs, the DEIB Committee has collaborated on an updated Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Strategic plan, which addresses what we see as the most pressing issues now and in the upcoming years.
The decision to create a new plan is based on changes at Gettysburg College, including a new Chief Diversity Officer and new institutional priorities and programs, as well as decreases in budget, staffing, enrollment, and tuition revenues.
Our focus will be on three strategic areas, as determined by …

Library Anxiety: How Elements Of Morrison’S Fourth Place And The Fast Casual Approach From The Restaurant Industry May Make The Academic Library Space More Inviting, Tara J. Kunesh
Georgia Library Quarterly
The concept of library anxiety was introduced by Constance Mellon in 1986. Since then, studies have attempted to shed light upon this phenomenon to mitigate the feelings of apprehension students may feel when utilizing the academic library space or when seeking the professional help of librarians. This literature review examines the literature and, specifically, discusses whether it is possible to configure the physical library space in a more inviting way. It highlights sociology of space theories as well as concepts behind the fast casual movement employed by the restaurant industry as possible routes to improvement.

Thematic Mapping Of Apidae Holdings Within The University Of Arkansas Arthropod Museum, Baylie Lenora Day
Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences Undergraduate Honors Theses
Museum biological collections store species data that can be utilized in research on biodiversity, environmental change, invasive species, public health, and disease. The University of Arkansas Arthropod Museum, which began in 1905, houses over 750,000 specimens and has not yet been digitized. Making data publicly accessible via the internet makes the data available to the entire scientific community. The goal of this project was to create a digital resource to allow greater access to the University of Arkansas Arthropod Museum holdings. To do so, data from Bombus (bumble bee) and Xylocopa (carpenter bee) specimens were databased in Excel and displayed …

Regulation Of Information Privacy: A Process Tracing Case Study Of Online Behavioral Advertising In The Eea, Thora Knight
Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)
Legislators worldwide are enacting or proposing privacy legislation to address online privacy concerns, with the most consequential global law, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), taking effect as recently as 2018. Scholars have long argued for or against various regulatory strategies (legal, self-regulation, and privacy self-management) as appropriate policy interventions, often through an economic lens. At the same time, research in the Information Systems (IS) domain contributed significantly towards understanding and explaining privacy-related issues in information and communication technologies, with privacy concerns emerging as a vital construct. Drawing on these theoretical foundations and the emerging online behavioral advertising (OBA) research, …
Is The Language Surrounding Current Punk Culture Signaling A Watering Down Of Dissent? Culture Mapping The Signifying Language Of Present-Day Punk Against Original Punk To See If It Is Still Addressing Societal Issues And Challenging The Status Quo., Marie Lena Tupot
Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)
Punk, originating from the economic turmoil of 1970s Britain, has transitioned into the digital realm, shedding its traditional symbols of rebellion while posing questions about contemporary dissent, such as: Are Punk ideals still addressing societal issues and challenging the status quo, or are they becoming more superficial or commercialized? Or are expressions of dissent genuine and rooted in lived experiences, or are they being appropriated for commercial gain? This study delves into the language of the shifting subcultures of Punk, silently thriving online through Cyberpunks, Cypherpunks, Anarchists, Anarcho-capitalists, and Cryptopunks. Each subgroup expresses rebellion uniquely: Cyberpunks through hacking, Cypherpunks through …

Organizational change generally and reorganization especially can inherently cause feelings of nervousness and tension. This chapter discusses the moving parts of an organizational transformation to an R1 library and how communication and consensus-building efforts at multiple levels of the library are vital to this kind of transition. Prior to their library’s reorganization, the three authors worked on three different teams across two different units. After the reorganization, the authors were positioned in the same department within a new division in the library and faced the challenge of leading their teams in a new structural environment. Clemson University’s mascot is the …

Keeping The Light On: Academic Librarians And Burnout, Jason D. Phillips, Laura Pitts, Jessica Riedmueller, Joanna Warren
The Southeastern Librarian
There is substantial research about sources of burnout among academic librarians; however, very little addresses the impact of the local environment. Responding to regional and institutional shifts while still trying to uphold the values of librarianship such as providing confidential and free access to information can quickly lead to mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion, classic symptoms of burnout. A panel discussion was presented at the Arkansas Library Association (ArLA) / Southeast Library Association (SELA) Joint Conference, on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Academic librarians from different Southern states discussed their local environments, their libraries’ responses to recent events, and their strategies …
Persistent Identifiers And The Next Generation Of Legal Scholarship, Aaron Retteen, Malikah Hall-Retteen
Persistent Identifiers And The Next Generation Of Legal Scholarship, Aaron Retteen, Malikah Hall-Retteen
Faculty Scholarship
This article discusses the importance of the most common persistent identifiers in scholarly communications—the digital object identifier and the ORCID identifier—to legal scholarship. Persistent identifiers help preserve and disseminate academic content and data-driven services that leverage this information standard are now integrated into the publication process. Because legal publishers have not widely adopted persistent identifiers, the legal discipline cannot enjoy the benefits offered by this system. This article looks at barriers to implementing persistent identifiers among legal publishers and provides an anecdotal example of creating a sustainable workflow between the law library and student-run law journals.
