The present work was undertaken to check the results of Dr. R.A. Leutgoeb in the electrolytic preparation and also to further the separation of glucuronic acid from the electrolyte.

Because up to 1938 no efficient chemical method of glucuronic acid had been developed. Dr. Leutgoeb undertook to remedy this lack by making use of electrolysis for a preparation from alpha methyl-glucoside. Such a chemical method is needed if biochemists wish to successfully continue work on the metabolism and deoxioating functions of glucuronic acid. Being interested in both the chemical and biological fields, the subject of glucuronic acid made a strong appeal.
