Production Of Orbitally Excited Charm Mesons In Semileptonic B Decays, D. Buskulic, M. Thulasidas Jan 1997

Production Of Orbitally Excited Charm Mesons In Semileptonic B Decays, D. Buskulic, M. Thulasidas

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

A sample of 3.6 million hadronic Z decays recorded between 1991 and 1995 with the ALEPH detector at LEP is used to investigate semileptonic decays of B mesons into final states involving orbitally excited charm mesons. Topological vertex criteria are used to search for decays involving narrow D** states as well as wide D** resonances and non-resonant D(*)π final states. The sum of the branching ratios for these processes is measured to be ${⤪ Br}({⩈erline {⤪ B}}⌝ghtarrow {⤪ D}≪ ⫑l^{-}{⩈erline v}) + {⤪ Br}({⩈erline {⤪ B}}⌝ghtarrow {⤪ D}^{⇒t}≪ ⫑l^{-}{⩈erline v})↦op =(2.26 pm 0.29({⤪ stat}) pm 0.33({⤪ syst}))%,$which accounts for a …

Transverse Momentum Correlations In Hadronic Z Decays, D. Buskulic, M. Thulasidas Jan 1997

Transverse Momentum Correlations In Hadronic Z Decays, D. Buskulic, M. Thulasidas

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Using data obtained with the ALEPH detector at the Z resonance, a measure based on transverse momentum is shown to exhibit a correlation between the two halves of a hadronic event which cannot be explained by energy-momentum conservation, flavour conservation, the imposition of an event axis or imperfect event reconstruction. Two possible interpretations based on existing Monte Carlo models are examined: a) ARIADNE, with the correlation forming early in the parton shower and with the transition from partons to hadrons playing only a minor part; b) JETSET, with the correlation forming at the fragmentation stage. A correlation technique based on …

Azo Dyes Based On 1,10-Phenanthroline, Minchong Mao Jan 1997

Azo Dyes Based On 1,10-Phenanthroline, Minchong Mao

Masters Theses

A series of new phenanthroline based azo-dye ligands, produced by diazotizing 5-amino-1,10-phenanthroline (5-NH2-phen) and then coupling this intermediate to a variety of coupling components, has been synthesized and characterized. The coupling components used were β-naphthol, phenol, and 2,6-dimethylphenol, and the three dye ligands were named phen-azo-β-naphthol, phen-azo-p-phenol, and phen-azo-2,6-dimethylphenol, respectively. 1H-NMR and IR spectra showed that the dyes exist primarily in the azo form in DMSO solution and as solids. UV-Vis spectra (in MeOH) showed intense (ε ≅ 104 M-1cm-1) absorptions ranging from 380 nm to 500 nm for these ligands.

The direct transformation of the energy of an incident high-energy photon into a measurable potential difference within an absorbing metal is investigated. Experimental evidence is presented that the effect arises from the inherent energy dependence of the electronic density of states, rather than from a simple temperature excursion. The similarities between the results on Al and YBa2Cu3O7 samples indicate that the effect is universal in nature. We assert it may be used as the basis of a fast, energy resolving, individual photon detector for the ultraviolet radiation and x-rays.

Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research

In this paper we prove that the projective dimension of Mn = R^4/(An) is 2n -1, where R is the ring of polynomials in 4n variables with complex coefficients and (An) is the module generated by the columns of a 4x4n matrix which arises as the Fourier transform of the matrix of differential operators associated with the regularity condition for a function of n quaternionic variables. As a corollary we show that the sheaf R of regular functions has flabby dimension 2n -1, and we prove a cohomology vanishing theorem for open sets in the space Hn of quaternions. We …

About Some Normal Subgroups Of Hecke Groups, İsmail Naci Cangül

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this work we study the suucture of some special normal subgroups of Hecke groups. Particwarly those of genus O and 1 are studied by means of the regwar map theory which has been a growing subject in recent years. As a nice application, we calcwate the total number of genus 1 normal subgroups for a given index.

Differentiable Functions And The Generators On A Hilbert-Lie Group, Erdal Coşkun Jan 1997

Differentiable Functions And The Generators On A Hilbert-Lie Group, Erdal Coşkun

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

A convolution semigroup plays an important role İn the theory of probability measure on Lie groups. The basic problem is that one wants to express a semigroup as a Lévy-Khinckine formula. If (\mu_t)_{t\epsilonR*_+} is a continuous semigroup of probability + measures on a Hilbert-Lie group G, then we define T{\mu_t}f:=\integral f_a\mu_t(da) (f\epsilonC_u(G),t>0 It is apparent that (\mu_t)_t{t\epsilonR*_+} is a contİnuous operator semigroup on the space + C_u ( G) with the İnfinitesimal generator N. The generatİng functional A of this semigroup is defined by Aƒ := Iim_t-->0 1/t(T_{\mu_t}f(e) - f(e). We have the problem of consliuction of a …

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this study, a semi-Markovian random walk with delaying screen at (\beta > O and the first crossing time ('\gamma1) of the zero level of this process are constructed. Furthermore, the distribution function with its Laplace transform, expected value and variance of random variable (\gamma1) are calculated. In addition to these, a formula for the higher order moments of ('\gamma1) is given.

Painlevé Analysis And Infinite Lie Symmetries Of The Complex Modified Korteweg-De Vries-Ii Equation, Abulgassim Ali Muhammad, Mehmet Can Jan 1997

Painlevé Analysis And Infinite Lie Symmetries Of The Complex Modified Korteweg-De Vries-Ii Equation, Abulgassim Ali Muhammad, Mehmet Can

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The Painleve analysis developed by Weiss et al. [9] for nonlinear partial differential equations is applied to the CMKdV-II equation. It has been shown that this equation passes the Painleve test. By specializing the arbitrary functions that appear in the phi series expansions found in the test, one obtains a system of partial differential equations for the formally arbitrary data. For specific systems, and conjectured in general, these equations are integrable. The form of the resulting reduction enables the identification of integrable reductions of the original systems. Assuming u_i = \upsilon_i = 0, i >= 2 we obtain conditions to …

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let R be a prime ring. Let \sigma , \tau be two homomorphisms and d be a (\sigma,\tau)-derivation of R. The purpose of this paper is to prove two results: (i) If char R \neq 2, U is a non-zero ideal of R, \sigma is subjective such that \sigma (U) \neq 0, \tau is an automorphism and [d(U), d(U)]_{\sigma,\tau} = 0, then \sigma^2 = \tau^2 and \sigma \tau = \tau \sigma. (ii) Under the assumptions that either char R = 0 or char R > max {2,n}, U is a non-zero right ideal, and \sigma, \tau are automorphisms of R, suppose …

The Rank And The Crank Modulo 5, A. Bülent Eki̇n

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let p(n) denote the number of partitions of n . Ramanujan's partition congruences are p(5n + 4) , p(7n + 5) and p(11n + 6) = mod 5, 7, and 11, respectively. These have been proved in number of ways. Atkin and Swinnerton-Dyer proved the congruences and some more relations about partition İn the case of mod5 and 7 in terms of rank, Garvan proved them in three cases in terms of crank. In this study, we give an another proof of their results in the case of mod5 by using the theory of modular forms. Although our method is …
